Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
Is it me or does anyone else think that Sky in the UK have done a very poor job of marketing Twin Peaks?
Pre series launch Twin Peaks was everywhere; dedicated TV trailers, outdoor posters, loads of social activity etc. Once into the series and the promotion stopped. All about Riviera and Game of Thrones and basically any other HBO series. It's almost as if they aren't bothered and all the pre series hype was just contractual.
I have to say, aside from trailers which ran prior to the show first airing, I've seen nothing.
It's all GOT trailers. But then again, GOT release a trailer for each episode, while Twin Peaks keeps it secret until it airs. I guess that doesn't help matters.
To be fair to Sky Atlantic they pretty much only push Game of Thrones when it's on. Bad timing/scheduling for Twin Peaks
Same here with Sky Atlantic (Italy). I just don't think they have much of an incentive after all. They make most of their money from subscriptions, so they can use the hype before a show airs to lure new customers. Once the show is released the number of new subscriptions it can bring should likely go down and I don't think the actual ratings matter a lot for them.
GoT is a different beast because it has a much larger audience, yet even for that show the promotion has been a little smaller after the first couple of episodes.
Another thing not to forget is that Showtime doesn't really release trailers or teasers, they put out one before the show was released and that's it, while HBO usually releases 2-3 trailers in the months that precedes the premiere, plus one every week to tease the following episode and they also release a lot of pictures and a lot of BTS stuff. Imho they overdo it, sometimes it reveals to much.
Last but not least, it depends a lot on what kind of obligations were included in the deal for the acquisition of the rights. It wouldn't surprise me if HBO required a much bigger marketing effort for its products.
Hadn't noticed that but haven't seen any U.S.advertising for TP either. Huh......
Well I was one of the suckers who signed up for now tv for TP so there model works. Did get to watch the original series on it and rewatched banshee so for £25 I'm not going to complain too loudly when I don't renew which is less than the blu-ray will be (which I'll buy anyway, did I mention I'm a sucker?)
Oh, I signed up for Now TV & did a 'pay one month, get one month free' offer. The quality was really dodgy & I found there were various ways you were supposed to try & fix it - so asked them... nothing.
So I filled in the 'leave when my subscription runs out' data - saying I had specifically joined to watch Twin Peaks & if I found the service good I'd keep it on... and nothing.
So I'm back to streaming it on a freebie site (I don't have a tv or a licence) but perfectly willing to pay someone to watch it!

I noticed some channels have unbelievably bad compression on the video signal and the sound has tons of digital clipping. It's like they turn the shows into really low quality mp4s to use as little bandwidth as possible.
