I think everything could be pointing to the Palmer House. After it is mentioned that sounds are coming from the kitchen, I was thinking about the text "Around the dinner table the conversation is lively." Also, Cole's vision I think showed the Woodsmen in the Palmer Home. Basically they moved from the Store to the House.
Maybe I'm on to something? Or not...
