The ancient Celts believed that the "Soul" (In quotes for SamX) resided in the head, to that end they were known to have collected the heads of their enemies, and would display the skulls in niches outside their dwellings. Taking an enemy's head/soul ostensibly gave you their power as well....it could explain why Major Briggs's is still missing....that guy had big mojo.
A friend in NZ told me Maori regard the head as sacred, too.
So, my favourite phrase of dismissal - "Go boil your head" is really insulting.
As a not-so-ancient Celt can I just mention we don't tend to do that quite so much these days.
Unless we're really annoyed... 😉

Note to self: always be nice to Mrs Watson! Some of my ancestors came from Dumfries and Galloway....yes, they were reavers. Question: has any good historical work been done on the Picts?
I'm gonna miss Matthew Lillard-he did a great job....but now he has no head either...
Poor Bill

Oh yes - we've a Pictish carved stone just up the road. My son's school badge shows the dragon depicted on it:
