Did anyone else notice the musical similarity between Heartbreaking (the music played in the final scene of ep 11) and Laura Palmer's theme? I kept expecting it to break into that but then it went somewhere else.
Given what some people have been saying about Laura being the key to Coop reawaking, this faint presence of her within the music could explain why he seemed to come so close to waking up but couldn't quite manage it.
Any thoughts?
I did! It struck me, however, as closer (harmonically) to "Under The Sycamore Trees," from the climax of FWWM.
Honestly felt like the musical cues were going over my head during initial watch (I'm not a musician, so that's not surprising).
I was kind of struck by how much the tempo of the music when Candie and the pink ladies walked in reminded me of WestWorld.
sorry - double post

Interesting, because the portal was on Sycamore Street:)

Indeed! Although this could just be wishful thinking on my part... The melodic sequence in the uptempo portion is not far off from Maurice Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte ...
Pretty music, poignant harmonic suspensions, classic Badalamenti. Love it!

I was thinking that or also something close to Under the Sycamore Tree but I can't quite pinpoint it. It also had a few moments reminiscent of the the Twin Peaks Theme song. It had to be something!
John and Brandy - yes to both.

Sorry, just occurred to me I should clarify, the Ravel title is, roughly, a "funeral procession for a dead princess...."
Coincidence?
"Preparatory" notes leading to the main chord - it is indeed a similar approach taken to the one in Laura's theme, where it "lightens" up from dark and mellow beginning. It is kind of meta-comment if you think about it. Laura's theme is always used in non-diegetic way, basically to represent emotions connected with her. Now the piano player is present in screen, making heartbreaking a diegetic sound. However apparently it raises recognizable emotions in Cooper. Beautiful.

The house in Rancho Rosa where Coop came through the outlet was also on—or at least near because Jade-Give-Two-Rides drove by a sign that said so—Sycamore Street (in Las Vegas).
Could the music possibly remind Cooper of the piano playing at the Great Northern? Think, Cooper never really would have heard any of the songs that we heard, unless they were being played there by Trudy the Waitress as they often were.

Just a slight correction. The song "Sycamore Trees" is played when Dale first walks into the Red Room in Episode 29. It just so happens to be on the FWWM soundtrack.
