Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
It's been mentioned throughout the world of Twin Peaks that there are 2 lodges, one accessed through fear (Black) and one through love (White). Hawk actually alludes to this in his conversation with Frank in E11.
I feel that Hastings and Ruth accessed the White Lodge when at the site visited in this episode, and Gordon was viewing the Black Lodge when Albert pulled him back. Gordon doesn't strike me as a fearful type though.
Thoughts???
I think that's a good point to remember. The scene of the woodsmen on the stairs is very dark and the paint on the walls is black, it could have been a window into the black lodge. However, there have been so many other ideas or terms introduced, like "the zone", alternate dimension, parallel universe, etc that it's hard to know anymore.
In seasons 1 and 2 I felt like there were clearly three "alternate" places: the white lodge, the waiting room, the black lodge.
In season 3 we've seen a purple island, a mauve room, endless space, where ever the "mother" is floating, and it's starting to get a little confusing. Are these all aspects of the same world of the waiting room and the "lodge dwellers?"
It is possible that Bill and Ruth could have opened the door to the white lodge, since it seemed he was very much in love with her. But I agree that Gordon was not opening the portal with fear. Beyond that I don't know.
Well said Christen.
I also wonder if it's worth considering a statement by the Giant in part 1: "it is in our house now". Adding further uncertainty as to which lodge/house/realm we are in as dark elements may be running free in the white lodge.
Let's not forget Laura's painting in FWWM also!
- and aren't you supposed to pass through the Black Lodge first - and if you aren't good & courageous you get stuck there?

Yup, Hawk said also this in the original show.

Hmm... I wonder if we'll get some journey with several characters going into the lodges - then it might be a case of who ends up where? Who is 'good' enough to pass to the white lodge & who gets retained in the black??
I've been thinking for a while that the whole Dougie thing was just Coop passing through the black lodge, being tested for goodness, I suppose.
I'd guess everyone will end up meeting at Jack Rabbit Palace. Maybe.
Gordon didn't open anything. It was already open hence the coordinates. We he did catch a glimpse of the black lodge.

Yes, and Coop got it wrong. Remember the Man From Another Place saying, "Wrong Way!"? He wasn't talking about the direction Coop was going.

Also, what about the way that Mike has occasionally broken thru to appear to Dougie, telling Dougie he has been tricked and not to die, or on the street trying to stop Dougie from going to meet the brothers. Mike and the new arm seem able to connect with Dougie' s reality at will, but maybe with a great electrical exertion of energy. Mike always appears to be coming from the red room, which seems to be a neutral zone, neither good nor bad, between that zone and a clearly human world. Black and White Lodges seen to have nothing to do with it. For some reason, Mike and the arm are concerned to keep Dougie alive and bring Mr C back to the Red Room, and then to the Black Lodge? Why do they care, and why does Mr C not want to go? Why does the Giant NOT communicate with Dougie, the way Giant often communicated with Agent Cooper in Twin Pinks, many times warning and advising Cooper back in those days?
Thinking there's an entire continuum "up there", with areas between the lodges and, in Bowie's 'Pallas Athena' style (God is on top of it all), there is the Giant/Fireman/??????? in his personal space with his missis, Senorita Dido.
The place where Coop landed on the way back could be a halfway house or a truck stop; it's definitely in communication with the Giant's home.
So, at one side, the White Lodge, at the other, the Black Lodge. Above both, the Giant's house, below the lodges, the Truck Stop and below that, us.
Maybe.

I had similar thoughts as our view zoomed in across the 'purple' sea and right towards the opening in the massive building. (It seemed to me like this could be situated on a moon, far away) As our viewpoint got closer to bldg. did anyone else notice there appeared to be several other dark, rectangular entrances? balconies? and 1 triangular area?
Anyway, I agree > "So, at one side, the White Lodge, at the other, the Black Lodge. Above both, the Giant's house, below the lodges, the Truck Stop and below that, us." < However, I think this huge building also houses the rooms we saw with Naido & American lady... probably even other 'socket' rooms.
Could be. It's a very similar sea, after all. if the Giant really is God - then the phrase "My House has many rooms" would be the literal truth.
But, being God, why does he watch events in that old fleapit movie theatre? You'd think he'd have a huge 4k monitor with Dolby surround.
I mean, there's retro and there's being plain silly.
Bet there's no popcorn, either.
I agree with the theory that the portal Gordon saw was to the White Lodge. The White Lodge is the "good place" so it makes sense for the portal to be in the sky and the Black Lodge's to be in the ground (the oil puddle). If it was a portal to the White Lodge, it's concerning that the woodsmen could be seen in it.
