While the group recalled what happened at the portal site in Buckhorn, Gordon Cole looked seemingly directly into the camera and shouted "Dirty bearded men in a room." When this happened something clicked and I remembered that in the FWWM room above the convenience store scene there are multiple silent homeless-looking people mixed in with the more memorable lodge characters. Anyone else experience this? Am I late on making the connection? Are these the same homeless people?
Someone else notes that the woodsmen appeared in FWWM, so I believe that you are correct. Someone else stated that they mimicked a character in either LH or MD, too.
There are a few threads in this forum discussing the connection you have drawn. I think the initial thread is in the episode 1 and 2 discussion.
Just compared a screen shot of the Woodsman on the stairs-wallpaper in background, to shots of the doorway with the floral wallpaper from FWWM, the wallpaper looks like a match. Can't post pictures here due to technical issues with the forum-but the Woodsman are at 13m35s in Part 11. The framed doorway photo from FWWM appears at 59m22s
I just tried to post that screen shot too, no dice.
I didn't see a floral wallpaper on the wall, just a place where the brick is showing through black paint. I would love a callback to that FWWM scene but I don't think this is the same room. More likely the convenience store.
I am curious about a little space between the top two woodsmen where there are some muted but more colorful spots? Hopefully the bug on the forum gets fixed because it's handier to post the pic than look up the scene.
Just watched Dune for first time in a long while. Ah the 80's..
I think that is the stairway to the room above the convenience store.
In Episode 8, it appears the convenience store only had one floor. I suspect that changed over time as the town grew. So, not same actors (and in FWWM they are not all charred/blackened), but I think they are meant to evoke the same spirits.
Artemis, me too 🙂 I also watched Eraserhead (after someone pointed out the atomic explosion picture in the room), figure I'd get some Lynch during the off days. And, unrelated, but I didn't realize that Spencer in Eraserhead was Nefud in Dune was Pete Martell in Twin Peaks. Lots of repeat castings, including little Alia in Dune is now Steven's cheating hookup? Oh how she has fallen.

It appeared that way but there is a staircase on the right-hand side, on the outside, of the convenience store in part 8. Climbing that staircase may lead to a different dimension; like entering the Red Room, so there doesn't necessarily need to be an actual physical second story atop the convenience store. However, there could also be several convenience stores scattered around.

Hi Mark,
Also notice that there is a patch on the wall below where the Woodsmen are standing. This burn mark appears to me to be the same, and on the same spot on the stairs, as the one seen behind Phillip Jefferies when he re-appeared in Buenos Aries. =:-O
But, we're not gonna talk about Judy at all. 😉

This, also in part 8, when the action moves to 1956, there's a shot of a gas station which looks very similar to the convenience store shown after the explosion, with a few differences, one of which is the fact that it now has a room above it.
Any one else notice that the stain on the wall of the staircase just in front of the Woodsmen takes the shape of a mushroom cloud
Dirty bearded men in a room......sounds like the bible to me ; )
