There was a fire and claims of arson, and a cover-up.  But then there wasn't a coverup and Dougie helped find it out.  However, Bud and company purchased a 2nd insurance policy to cover it and more.  Then there's Tom Sizemore...

We've seen the narrative in such fragmented pieces.  Can anyone give  a brief summary of what happened specifically with this fire and the resultant insurance claim?

I think there are two distinct cases. The first time we are in the office, Tony (Sizemore) says that the Littlefield case (I think it was) was NOT arson, and DougieCoop says, "he's lying" after there is that light on Tony's face.

Then, Bushnell, gives Dougie the case files and he goes home and marks them up. Some of those must have been related to the Mitchum's hotel fire, I guess, because Bushnell comes to the conclusion based on Dougie's work that that fire was not arson and the Mitchums have a legitimate claim.

The scene with Duncan Todd and Tony indicates that they conspired to deny the Mitchums their money. So, we have one case where Tony was dirty by denying a claim, and another where he was dirty by granting a claim in a case that was actually arson. And, from what Bushnell says, probably more cases to boot.

I just can't wait for Bushnell to put his pugilistic talents to good use on one of the bad guys.

I think a large element of this plot is to give helpless/not-so-helpless Dougie/Coop 'muscle' and support for then the faeces really start to hit the fan...

Also, an observation. When the gangsters are eating breakfast cereal, at approx 38 mins, a person(?) raises from the bushes and walks off. Strange. Is it a woodsman?

I think it could be but I also think it may just be the drink girl's (does she have a name?) reflection in the glass. Or it could be both the girl's reflection AND a woodsman. BTW, is this the first time we've heard one of the girls besides Candie speak aloud?

"...the shots are being called by somebody else" Bushnell says. Mr C? I think this is about good winning over evil. It's possible that the Mitchum brothers will now come to Dougie's aid if there's a final showdown between Mr C and Dougie. Mabe that was the whole point of the lodge spirits helping Dougie.

Thanks for the thoughts so far.  I do realize that the details are not likely very important as the broad story that is being told.

Perhaps ultimately it goes back to Mr. C, but in the last episode, Duncan Todd explicitly states that the insurance fraud was his idea and he made Anthony execute it because the Mitchem Brothers are his sworn enemies.

You're spot on. It shows how we can possibly over interpret an succumb to false alarms!

New source of profit/enjoyment aside from Candie gained, Mr.  Jackpots Dougie brings money and pie, heals the wound, all part of the same dream that Dougie would help them and the wound would heal......notice how Candie hitting him/questioning her role, etc. and Dougie taking their money were both threats to their 'version layer', much like Shelly with Red is a threat to Bobby's 'version layer'

Hi Nikolaj,

When Candie was describing to the Mitchums the conversation she had with Anthony, she said she talked about the weather, among other things.  When she was talking about how hot it was, she said Las Vegas was in a "version layer".  Of course, what she meant was an inversion layer.

That Candie!  Definitely not a meteorologist!  😉
