Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
The clues are lining up.
Annie "Blackburn" - black fire - shown on the map, where they are going.
Mitchum said to Candie "Annie, look at me"
In the original TP, Annie recognized the owl cave symbol.
In the original TP, Annie was from a "convent" and told Cooper: "I'm disoriented, I'm not sure where I am.I mean, I know where I am, but it feels odd being here."
In TSHoTP, it is suggested that Annie was probably not Norma's sister.
I have a theory based on this and believe Candie is a VERY IMPORTANT character/s.
Oh, do you mean that Annie was some kind of 'caretaker' for guiding Cooper or something? How would Norma be involved?
Are we all thinking Mitchum said - Annie, look at me?
To me it sounded like he said Annie, then Candie, then Annie again. And I'm used to accents where consonants can get ditched very easily... but it didn't sound like that 'cos usually the rhythm of the word stays the same.
The subtitles show he's saying "Candie" every time.

Hmm, good points. Will have to watch that scene again. Oh dear... 😉
Slight off topic here.
Our family used to love doing all the accents when we were growing up in the Midlands, West Bromwich in fact. The Kiwi accent is something else, especially the Maori when they speak English. Oh, btw John Oliver from Last Week Tonight cannot do a Kiwi accent, beyond him saying Eminem. Iminim 🙂

I think it's still Candie but I'm afraid the subtitles (closed captions) are not reliable.

I have no idea how or why Norma would be involved. It must be important that the dossier and original TP diverge with her family background. So, I think that is enough of a clue that something isn't quite right with Norma.
I think the "spirit bubble Laura" possessed Annie in the original TP. I think Annie guided Cooper in several ways. I believe it was Annie who first made Cooper aware of Owl Cave. Annie is certainly the reason Cooper entered the Black Lodge and the reason he stayed there.
I think the "spirit Laura" now possesses Candie. That is based on Candie's odd behavior and my belief that Mitchum clearly calls her Annie.
I think Coop was just reunited with Annie/Laura and they all need to wake up and get to Twin Peaks.
I forgot to mention that Candie's breakdown in episode 10 "How can you ever love me after what I did" made me think of Annie. Candie seemed way overly emotional and could not be consoled. Annie would have likely had an emotional reaction to losing her first lover resulting in her suicide attempt.

That's interesting, as I thought about the 'How can you love me..' outburst was so similar to Laura's pleading 'Are you still my friend' scene to Donna in FWWM - which, of course, featured in Gordon's vision. Maybe it also links up with Annie being driven to despair as you said - and what about Becky's reaction this week?
Maybe as they all reach a certain point of wretchedness, something gradually adds up...?
The book: "That's Mark Frost's vision of Twin Peaks." - David Lynch responding to being asked about the book being connected to the show. They co-wrote the script so there were ideas they agreed on for it.
Annie ( & John Wheeler ) were created to fit the script being changed because LF Boyle threw a fit and got her then-boyfriend Kyle M. to get them to change the intended romance between Coop & Audrey.

Exactly! Why would one of the show's co-creators and script co-writers create questions about Norma's background. I don't think Lynch's comment should lead us to disregard the potential relationship between the book and the series, particularly when Mark Frost has little interest in being seen as a fool.
The dossier suggests Cooper is responsible for the questions about Norma's past. It is likely a clever addition by Frost based on how he knew the series would go.

And Lynch felt Annie important enough to include in FWWM and the discovered diary pages from earlier this season. Annie is important.
The book is not canon for the show is the point.
