After watching this episode I kept asking myself why use footage of Laura Palmer that is 25 years old? We know that Sheryl Lee signed on to this season and she has shot footage for the show, so why not use a current version of Laura standing in Gordon's door? So I went back and watched the scene that the footage was taken from. This was during a conversation with Donna right after Laura found out her father was the one molesting her. Or from the audiences point of view when we find out Leland is not who we thought he was. Of course if that is the message Lynch was trying to convey then the strange texts that Diane is sending may have us asking, "Is Diane who she seems to be"? But maybe we should be asking that question about Tammy. Why? Well, Tammy was in the hall when the door knob started to glitch. Also Tammy was on the plane when the windows started to glitch in a similar fashion. Now I'm thinking I need to watch Tammy's scenes again, maybe there are more strange happenings when she is around. And maybe Tammy is not who she seems to be.
The music behind her as she was walking upcthe hallway towards Gordon's hotel room door struck me as ominous...
And it "may have us asking" or cuing that "we should be asking" whether we or anyone else is who we/they "seem to be," not in the sense of deception or self-deception but in the sense of having a "self" that is (socially) constructed, that doesn't exist in the way it appears to us, that seems largely to be a side-effect of our neuro-evolutionary biology.
Have a strange feeling she'll wind up being "Philip Jeffries".
She knows just enough to be dangerous (the history of Twin Peaks, what happened in NY, etc.).
The "Behind the scenes" moments when she's working alone show her to be a dedicated, intelligent, hard working agent. I've not seen anything - yet - to make her appear sinister or doing anything underhand.
Consider also, Gordon seems keen to keep her in the loop and, according to the conversation on the plane, she's passed all his tests.
The door glitching just before she touches it, and I don't know...something about the way she moves.
I mean, if I were some all-encompassing evil, and I was aware the FBI was looking for ways to halt my nefarious plans, and that they were led by this Gordon fella with a penchant for young, attractive women - I'd probably use that against him somehow.
WHo knows though. It's all just wild guesses.
We all seem to agree Gordon's no fool and he knows more about the situation than he lets on. Granted, he's keeping Diane close but I think this is a fish of a different colour.
I just don't see Tammy being able to get under his radar so completely. Besides which, having such a well hidden baddie in the middle of the good guys is the kind of plot device Lynch and Frost would go out of their way to avoid, since it was (arguably) done before with Leland/Bob.
The door was probably some residual thingamajig* left over from Laura's attempt to crash the party, sort of like hanging up the phone after the conversation's finished.
Maybe. 😉
* Please forgive the technical term.

Well as the poor woman was flipped backwards & forwards & became see through, she was probably still trying to get in after so rudely being walked through by Albert... 😉
I'm so glad this was brought up. I've been thinking about this a lot since Tammy is by far my least favorite character. I just think she's ridiculous. She walks like she's on a never-ending runway, she is constantly "posing" as though she's on a cover model shoot (see smoking scene with Diane), and she is NEVER still (see interview with Hasting). IMO she is awkward and inappropriate for a Special Agent of the FBI. Somebody even asked me is she was David Lynch's girlfriend or something because her performance seems so unnecessarily over the top melodramatic. I keep holding on to the idea that this in not a mistake and that Lynch has a plan, I just don't know what it is yet.
And this post gives me hope. There must be a higher purpose, a reason of some kind and Chrysta Bell isn't an unfortunately terrible actress. (yes flog me, beat me, call me names, it's a character/actress I struggle with).
I especially like the idea that she is Phillip Jeffries. I'm not sure I fully support that theory....yet. But I am entertained by the vision that David Bowie possessed her body in order to fulfill his promise to DL to reprise the character. Of course Bowie would want to try life as a female this time around and the behavior seems fitting to someone who only has an idea of how woman actually behave.
Thank you Flynn for starting this thread.
I liked her character in the Secret History dossier. As an earlier poster mentioned, she comes across as dedicated, professional.
She may have hips like a snake (phrooar) but I can't see her being evil or having an agenda.
Lol Brandy - I completely agree that if Tammy isn't doing all that for a very good reason, then it's so annoying! I mentioned my thoughts about her behaviour in the smoking scene, which I found completely bizarre - but others thought she was being 'uncomfortable'... I suspect there's a bit of a male/female divide on this as to me, if she'd been uncomfortable with it all she'd have stared at her nails, rolled her eyes, fidgited with a button & looked bored. She could have done all that in her over-the-top-Jessica-Rabbit style & that would have made sense.
Naomi Watts said in an interview that the actors were only given their own parts - and didn't know what had happened in a scene before they came in. I'm not sure if Tammy's been told what's happening in the rest of the series! 🙂

I fully expected Diane to shout something at her like "Are you poising for a fucking photo shoot Tammy?!"
I can think of a few reasons why Tammy acts the way she does, none of them with malicious intent.
Possibly some is personal camouflage, possibly some part is trying too hard to be taken seriously - given she's an obvious babe - and possibly some is "the girl can't help it", since she's built that way.
I reckon she is extremely - Genius or High Genius - gifted and resents that she's not always taken seriously because she is pretty, so at times she seems harsh and over emphatic. Other times, that's not an issue, so she's happy being herself and - like any rational person - comfortable in her own skin and quite possibly rather pleased she's been given a decent share in the good looks stakes. That's not to say she's vain or anything; it's a natural reaction. Most people like to look good, for themselves, not for any other reason; the old trope about women wanting to look good to attract a mate is pretty damn threadbare these days, or should be.
There may also times when she's in conflict with herself because she would use her physical attributes to gain advantage, but feels like she let herself down - and maybe her gender, too - by going the route of so many stereotypes.
So, a rather complex character, not always sure how to react or behave in every situation.
Once more, I conclude the writers have used the situation and character as a way of introducing a subtext, as with Dougie/Coop, this time about women in society.
I hope you're right Sam.
So do I, else I just spent time typing out a rationale that's complete bollocks. But there yer go. ?
