When rewatching I was struck by how this character never speaks.  During the diner scene, when sitting with DoppelCoop, Ray and Daria, there's a remark (from Ray) about how he's 'on his third dinner' as he gobbles down a plate of spaghetti.  Later when he's locking up the car, Doppelcoop calls him and grabs/massages his face... and this called to mind someone stroking their pet dog, which made me wonder if this possible in the Twin Peaks universe - humans possessed with the souls of animals, doppelgangers that look like humans which are actually constituted from dogs?  Perhaps something has happened to this character's soul?  (No doubt he has a long conversation in Episode 3 and I will feel like an idiot sharing all of this!)
