Such a loaded question, There are many answers.

The one that allows me to sleep at night is (Drum Roll Please...)

Everything in the Twin Peaks realm is now fucked up because Dale Cooper went back in time on February 23, 1989 and altered history.  The new series was filmed with this in mind, the odd and unexplainable.  It also helps to resolve why some things in season 1 and 2 were a little off kilter now too.  Dale and Diane take a road trip to a specific place, outlined by the Fireman, to try and mend the fabric of the Twin Peaks universe.  They perform the strange Sex Magic Ritual and the gap starts to close.  By the time he wakes up and she is gone, the universe has basically set itsel back to rights.  In this time/ Universe alignment, the Twin Peaks  realm looks and acts more like ours and when Dale takes Carrie Page back to her old home in Everett, the Palmers never lived there only the evil power Judy is still present.  Carries scream of remembering and pain are enough to put the lights out on Judy (literally and figuratively) whie Cooper tries to figure out what year he has come to.

Fade to Black and millions of crushed souls later, this is my understanding.  If it makes yuo feel better please feel free to use it to expand upon.

Ive been a terrible forum participant lately. Lots on! Just checking in to say hello. 

I've still not gotten round to watching the series from scratch again. Hopefully soon.

Twice now, the second time was hard, tried to see things I missed, catching things I learned about here and really focusing on the sound aspect...it was way too much for 1 person.

Going to give it a 3rd run soon, just to watch and listen, trying not to focus on anything from these blogs, we will see how that goes.
