I do insist on marking a difference between a tulpa and a doppelganger. It seems the latter occurs through a splitting of the self in the Lodge - confronting the dweller on the threshold or whatever - whereas the former is created with a seed and the person's DNA.

But I also think it is important to think about where we are getting these terms. We get 'tulpa' from Tammy after she hears the Lois Duffy story, for example. The word 'doppelganger' on the other hand, is used by the Arm in the Lodge. For whatever that's worth. I just think it is important to think about the sources of some of the information we get. Windom Earle and Hawk also tell us things about how the Lodges work. To what degree does either have it right? etc.

Good point.

Just noticed the music in part 8 when senorita and fireman are with the Laura orb is the same as music in part 18 when Mike makes the new Dougie !

Can I get your thoughts on this guys  please ?

Both musics are very close, but there is a slight difference for me (played on a different key maybe, I'm not a musician)

I signed up the other day, so hello all.

You're on the right track with the music here, but it is not the same as Part 8. It is the same as Part 6 as well as one other part (16, I believe), however. It is the "Accident/Farewell Theme" that first plays when the boy is hit by the car, and then again when Cooper has to leave Janey-E to go to Twin Peaks. Its use in Part 18 could mean that Cooper has sacrificed part of himself at the end so that a new Dougie could be formed. It's not a positive composition, so I believe Dougie's return to Janey-E is supposed to be taken as bittersweet. I also think there's a chance that Janey-E doesn't necessarily exist outside of the red room, especially judging by the cut from the curtains to the red door of her house, which could be taken to mean that Cooper has sacrificed part of his soul to forever be trapped in the lodge. But take all that with a grain of salt because I think the show is all about questioning what we take to be "reality," with the reality of reality, dreams, subconscious, etc. all being equally real.

At any rate, it's the "Accident/Farewell Theme."

LateReg, I gotta say.. it has never crossed my mind that that is why Cooper was "off" in the final episode - that he lost a part of himself when the Dougie Tulpa was made.  This REALLY opens up a lot of possibilities now (so THANK YOU for joining these forums!!).

Now.. can you imagine the horror on Janey-E's and son's face when Dougie dies and just disappears???

So....

Did Mr. C lose something of himself when he manufactured gold jacket Dougie for a purpose?

Or maybe it had to come from original Cooper's DNA, and therefore his 'self' too.

Got the Red Room blues when all your junkie inclinations step out on you.

I always figured that dopplegangers were different than tulpas.  My initial reaction was "tulpas? crap, now we have another element to add to the mythos."

I think over the summer I may work on "How the Black Lodge Works".  I'll need to rewatch everything and make some very specific notes and see what I can come up with.

How to identify a doppleganger and a tulpa ?

- A doppleganger have white eyes in the Lodge and black eyes outside the Lodge
- Tulpa's eyes are normal.
- When a tulpa is dying in the Lodge, he is shrinking and vanishing in a black smoke
- A doppleganger is burning in the Lodge when his time is out.
- Dopplegangers are created only in the Lodge
- Tulpas are created in the Lodge too, but can be manufactured outside the Lodge by a doppleganger.

(we have no informations about Lois Duffy. We don't know where her tulpa was manufactured. And if she had a doppleganger too).

Yeah, the idea would be that he lost something in relation to enjoyment/satisfaction, or something like that. Think about how he was at the end of season 2, laughing maniacally, in comparison to how he was in S3. Dougie Jones (the OGD) is characterized as gambling, drinking, having sex with prostitutes. Mr. C seems cold and detached, even in sexual situations.

The idea then, is that Cooper, in the creation of the new Dougie, who comes home to Janey-E and Sonny Jim, gave up something related to what we might call his joie de vivre. Again, though, this isn't originally my idea. I wish I could remember/find who laid it out originally, because I recall there being more detail there.

I definitely think it could be a consistent view; I'm not sure why I resist fully embracing it.

I remember asking about our Coop-Dougie, and what that character is supposed to mean, what is that role?  And I think it was Cæmeron who suggested that he was a man without future or past.  He was stranded in the present exclusively; no guidance from past experience, no thoughts of building for the future.  I don't know how he got that way, and what brought him back.  Electricity...but how did he lose that?  He's a man that lost some significant part of himself, but not by conceding it for a purpose (tulpa).

I like the saying: The opposite of being an addict is not sobriety, but being connected.  I can see FinalCoop consigning his connectivity over to FamilyDougie.  That would give FamilyDougie what he needs and could also explain for me what was 'off' about FinalCoop.

And anyway, what other story is there other than the labyrinth of the human condition?

What do we draw from the scene in th e original series  where the giant says to Cooper "you forgot something " and then sends a golden orb into Coops body?

In TOS one day Donna knocks on the door to Mrs Tremond and grandson.

Next day she knocks on same door but a new lady lives there...never heard of Tremonds.

In TR Coop and Carrie knock on Palmers door but new lady owner, Tremond  never heard of  Palmers!

Mrs Alice Tremond talks to someone off screen. We presume her husband  but could be  grandson?

Cooper asks Carrie Page, "What year is this?" has anyone looked over the scenes as they drive into Twin Peaks to look at cars and determine a rough year based on that?

Very few cars are seen on the screen between Odessa and Twin Peaks after Richard / Cooper leaves Judy's.

- two cars parked on the side of Carrie's home

- some cars driving in the dark at the Valero gas station

- two cars parked near the Double R in Twin Peaks.

None of them are identifiable.

The only car identifiable is Cooper's one : a 2003 Lincoln Town Car.

But it means nothing, it's maybe an actual car, and old car, a very old car in "this year".

When Cooper and Diane are leaving the Lodge for the 430 miles drive, when they are under the electric poles, when they are driving in the night, and parking at the motel, there is not another car watchable.

Just Cooper's 1963 Ford Galaxie.

When I was watching few minutes ago the scene when Cooper and Carrie are entering in Twin Peaks and driving in front of the Double R, I've noticed something strange.

Look at this video, in HD and full screen for the details, and watch the reflection of the car in the Double R windows.
The angle and the delay after the car turns to the left seems to me not "real".

Like when Ed Hurley is eating his soup and the reflection in the window is not what he is doing at the same time.

What do you think ?
The reflection delay seems real or not ?

I'd like to see what the gas prices are at the Valero sign, that could provide a little more detail to the time period.

In regards to your reflection, if it seems real, I can't tell from the video, but I'll look at it on my blu-ray when I get home.  What keeps grabbing my eye is the strobe light on the front of the RR Diner.. I can't help but be reminded of the 'sun reflection' on the airplane windows from a previous episode.

If my memory is OK, somebody checked the prices and it was correct with the filming, fall 2015.
