Cooper was seated in the same chair as Andy was later in the series (same lamp on the left too) :

So if Andy is in B/W, how does that fall into the theory? Is it future or past, or present?

Huh...I guess it was the present when the Fireman showed Andy the past and the future on the ceiling of his home.

Some images are in color and other ones are in BW on the ceiling.

And the electric pole #6 in front of Carrie Page house is turning BW to color.

Crap !

I am confused, the Fireman is doing a wave like one of the woodsmen above the convenience store in FWWM :

Very first scene after the opening credits of part 1. It must be the fireman's "house." But before I always assumed it was the red room....in black and white.

Oh no, I  always knew it to be firemans house.

I see its a different setting with the chair like Andy had. That must be his "ceiling movie screen room"

I had never given it any thought before.

Now that this topic has me obsessing, I'm curious what the take is on the whole bomb/explosion bit all the way through.  It goes from color to B/W and back again.

Also, the woodsmen patching up Mr. C scene, goes to B/W.

Thanks for the screenshots Lucas! I've actually been trying to figure where in the Fireman's palace this took place. . . def looks like the ceiling viewing room for sure.

The bomb/explosion - I need to watch it again. If I remember, it starts in black and white (i.e., in the "past") and once we get inside the explosion we get color. The Fireman's. . . universe? is a gold blob, the ocean is that mauve color. Inside the mansion is black and white. Convenience Store is all black and white. The experiment is . . . mauve too? I can't remember.

I'd say (totally NOT attached to this, just first thoughts): b&w of bomb is purely about it happening in the past. B&W of both the Convenience Store and Fireman's room represent places that are "outside" of time - i.e., whatever happens there is always the "past" and so can dictate the "future."

One things about the a-bomb that I've noticed on several re-watchings: One of the first images you see once you get inside the cloud is what looks like an inverse image of the plume of the mushroom cloud exploding. . . kind of like it's punching a hole in the other side of something. About 2:01 in the video here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IKUeIEdRMY

Watch it again.  There is a bit of back and forth throughout the whole explosion.

I'm not sure how and if every instance of B&W vs. color will fit the past/future theory, but at the very least I think when Coop leads Laura out of the forest in ep. 18 and it goes from B&W to color it indicates some kind of alteration of reality. Or the creation of a new or parallel reality.

The new thing I'm driving myself nuts with is the FBI pin. Coop doesn't have it in the final scene in the Sheriff's Office, but then he does have it in the basement of the Great Northern. It implies these events are NOT being show in order.

There were several examples of events not being shown in order.  I can't remember them all right now and I haven't come across the cross-roads/discrepancies of those events at this point in my re-watch.

Of course not all color changes will necessarily fall into the theories of this thread.  However, ya'll may be on to something and the color changes MIGHT all fit into the theories or at least be indicative of us being headed in the right direction.  Thus why I keep bringing them here whenever I come across them. ?
