Did everybody else already catch this? I didn't! There was a British rock/tv band in the 60s/70s called Freddie and the Dreamers. Maybe this is why they named our young green-gloved hero "Freddie." (I only just now came across the name of the music act... Unfortunately, I don't see it tying to 1956 in particular, but I guess the group did "rock.")
I remember them well. I liked them as a kid.
Freddie Garrity was a Northern lad, from around the Manchester area. He spent some time in Sheffield - my home town - and was in a local hospital for a while before returning home.
I'm gonna have to look them up. Always looking for "new" (new to me) music.
Very poppy, in a similar vein to Gerry and the Pacemakers or even early Beatles.
Not earth shattering but as a little kid, I didn't particularly want earth shattering music. When you're about 6, the finest contribution to music is the Chipmunks.
Awwww, the Chipmunks. Had them on vinyl. Now THAT was music. 😉
Totally unknown to me.
Just watched a couple of videos, the songs were choreographed 😉
Freddie Sykes favorite song :

Their big hit, Witch Doctor, was covered by a Brit, Don Lang (and his Frantic Five). I used to drive my parents daft by playing it non stop.
Bitten by Karma, though; I made the mistake of playing it to my kids. Now they drive me daft by asking me to play it all the time.
Love me some Smiths! Even if Morrissey is a complete wanker.

This Charming Man 7" cover was a picture of Jean Marais in "Orphée" movie :

Oh, he's much more than that. He's a racist motherfucker, too.

I completely believe it. I haven't paid any attention to him is many years now except when bizarre forum people show up ranting about how their lives were changed by him. 😉
