I think the beginning of the secretary scene at the radio station is an homage to Edward Hopper's painting "Office at night". I love that painting.
Her dress, particularly the collar, is the same. Her pose at the filing cabinets when the Woodsman walks in is the same. The desk layout - papers, lamp and phone - is the same, apart from the man at the desk being missing.
I was completely unaware of the painting - until it was mentioned on this forum yesterday! Very educational, this place 🙂
