Mike's host is Phillip Michael Gerard.
Why are Mike and Phillip both played by the same actor? Bob and the Giant both have hosts that look different from the spirits.
Could it be to do with the fact that mike's host hasn't actually left him? (drugs keep him at bay) He's still therefore very much a part of him.
Then again that doesn't make sense because as you say, the giant had a host as well and we saw his vessel as he was.
Perhaps the short answer is that the spirit chooses to show themselves in whatever image most resonates with them. Perhaps after Mike found god, he chose to do away with his old image.

Hmm. Which other spirits also have hosts besides Mike, Bob, and Giant? The Tremonds/Chalfonts weren't hosts were they? I think Donna saw the spirits themselves, as the real occupant of the house was a different lady. Or was that lady the host, do you think?
I have been thinking about the possibility that maybe they are more like doppelgangers, with one in the lodge and one out in the world (like with Coop). It always seemed like Mike in the lodge in the old stuff was not so helpful/evil, whereas every time we have seem him in the new stuff he has been helpful to Coop. Also, in the credits it says Philip Gerard. So, wild theory that maybe there are two beings at play here, and maybe they have switched places in the past 25 years, and maybe THIS was the person Mr. C was talking to when he thought he was calling Jeffries in ep2 or whatever... I realize that is getting pretty speculative

it's look like this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJgBQdCcvbI
This video says the Arm is actually Mike.
It's supported by the FWWM script. But it also conflicts with some facts : the man has introduced himself as the Arm, and it fits perfectly with Mike having cut off his arm, and with his host Gerard having 1 arm (hosts seem to end up with similar appearance as their spirits : Giant's tall host, Mike's one-armed host, DoppelDale growing his hair. With the exception of Leland).
This makes me think that these might be discrepancies caused by creating a story for a long period of time, where things evolve and new ideas can turn a character's or thread's direction, causing bits of inconsistencies with the past.
I kinda think Laura now a saviour is such case.

the Giant Host isn't the old man saying "I heard about you!!!" on and on and on???

Thanks for the videos, Jonathan. But I kinda disagree with this one.
It's basically saying that the boy is symbolic of Leland, but what is that. Because it isn't exactly Leland's soul, separating from his body to tell his daughter clues. I can accept symbols being seen in a dream (but the show has never used this method, it has always been spirits giving messages through dreams), but not manifesting in real life. Plus the boy and grandmother seem like such solid characters of their own, I don't think the boy is Leland. I think they're spirits, and formidable ones : the boy does magic, the grandmother turned down garmonbozia, and both were present at the meeting above the convenience store.
The grandmother "representing" Death I think sounds totally off. First of all just because Leland only mentioned his grandfather, doesn't mean his grandmother had died before his grandfather (we can't apply the FBI sign language at random. There's no link to the FBI or to conveying secret messages here. Plus Lil as Cole's "mother's sister's girl" is a pointed off phrase -it's just Cole's cousin- telling people to look for a hidden meaning. Leland saying his grandfather's house is completely normal). Also, Death is in an altogether different league from the Lodge spirits, if the show creators chose to give it a visual manifestation, and I don't think it would be traveling around with Leland's spirit and giving clues to Laura and Donna.
the Giant Host isn't the old man saying "I heard about you!!!" on and on and on???
Wait, when did this happen? The Giant's host is the Great Northern's old, skinny, tall waiter, who sadly apologized to Cooper at the roadhouse the time Maddy was murdered.
Who said " I heard about you!", Jonathan?

?
I wonder what Bob's doppelgänger would be like....
Good?
?

we always see the Old man before the giant appear or at least the old man is always present when the giant appear and we see the giant and the old man side by side in the black lodge saying "one and the same"

Mike was VERY helpful, you haven't seen FWWM have you?

Yep, that's him. Didn't remember him saying "I heard about you." ? The hosts match the spirits, right? Giant's host is tall, DoppelDale grew his hair like Bob, Gerard is one-armed like Mike, and the Arm is short because he's not a whole body.
