Apparently, the population listed on the Odessa sign is correct for the year 2008 and the symbol of Odessa, TX is the jack rabbit

That's what happens when the prop manager can't do any better, and the crew is filming in Inglewood and calling it Texas.

not sure but thinking of Odysseus... the hotel number being 7 which is the number of years Ody was captive on Calypso's isle.

next two rooms were 3 and 1  (shouldnt be the case by logic) 7+3+1=11, 1+1=2

Remember 430 4+3+0=10 number of completion.  2x10=20 number of years Ody was gone (10 fighting the Trojan war, 10 trying to get home)

He also had issues once he finally made it home and had to overcome obstacles to reclaim his identity.

Maybe theres stuff in that?

Forgive my ignorance - how does 4+3+0 = 10?

Hahaha forgiven.

I meant to refer to 253. But had been reading about 430 miles. Lol. 430 does end up being 7 as well. Still the theory stands.

I think people are getting a bit to complicated with the town of Odessa. You are on to something here. I thought the same. But Odessa is simply the feminine form of the name Odysseus.  Cooper is in Odessa because he's on a mission to bring a woman home.

Instead of the Odyssey, it's an Odessay.

Did it have to be SO far away from TP?  Isn't there another place closer that would not require the endless driving scene?  This does not really require an answer.

Somebody else had posted some interesting historical facts about Odessa that make me wonder if Lynch didn't choose this city for a reason.

I like that theory, Cooper as Lynch's version of Ulysses. Would that make Candie, Sandie and Mandie the sirens???

I posted this in another thread but thought I'd repeat it as it may very well explain why Richard drove to Odessa.  In his confused state, maybe he was confusing Laura's murder to this one.  Amazing similarities.... too many just to be coincidence imo, especially after watching the S1 pilot again.

-------

In 1961, Betty Williams's (a teenage girl) dead body was found in a stock pond several miles outside Odessa.  Her parents had reported her missing after she missed breakfast and failed to show up for classes at school.  A few of her classmates indicated that she had slipped out of her home in the middle of the night to spend time with a male friend. After she was dead, the guy who killed her wrapped her body up.

Evidently, many claim that the ghost of Betty Williams still haunts Odessa High School.  Maybe that is why we've seen several times of the girl running outside Laura's school.

Thank you for reposting.  I could not for life of me remember the name of the thread or the OP.
