A final thought (for tonight at least):

One of the signs of literary value is whether a text invites and withstands "close reading":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close_reading

While originating in a literary context, this concept of course extends to other media, including movies.

I think we can all agree that TPTR _more_ than invites (and repays) "close reading"; and as such that it neither promises nor values easy, superficial, on-first-viewing understanding or comprehension.

For myself, I welcome that invitation!

Aye, that's a good one, although...

I never sought validation in the opinions of others.  I'm egotistical well adjusted enough to plough my own furrow and those who don't like it can just fuck off happily go their own way.  If I like something it's for the value it has for me, not for some intellectual cachet or feeling of belonging.  OTOH, I don't make a virtue out of being different for the sake of it.  I like stuff because I like it.  Most of the time, I can't say why in any objective terms.

I guess if others think it's "worthy" that's added value; I can't deny that.

OP, you're referring to a pure analytical process which stands the test of time as it is proven through finer and finer evaluation, though it is not inflexible.  SamX's approach by contrast is far more organic and (daring to date myself once again) after a certain amount of experience in life, comes a time when I have found it to be the process most able to be trusted.  Think like Hawk.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying.  It's what this message board is all about.
