Yep, a definite catch, Buttercup.

Maybe Sarah is a force for good and has a bodyguard.

It reminds me of the Judeo/Christian view of angels.  Popular trends show them as cute little girly things but in reality they were big scary guys who could level whole cities without breaking a sweat.  God's enforcers.

Maybe this thing is a portable version.

"Judeo-Christian"- not a thing. You mean "Christian". We Jews got our own thing going on (-; (sorry for the screed- the term sets me off).

I don't know that Sarah is "good",  but for those of us who have been harrassed like that by dickweeds from the "world of truck drivers" (sorry, ACTUAL truck drivers), it is hard to not cheer the scene.

And to whomever minimized what he did, he was attempting to terrorize her, and threatened real violence.

He behaved badly towards her but in effect all he did was say a few swear words to her. Murdering him was an extreme reaction. I don't see her as a force for good when she acted this way.

"I'l rip your little dyke titties off"

Even before he said that I had him down as a rapist.

His whole demeanor was threatening.  She asked him twice to leave her alone.  He wasn't taking no for an answer.  Likely rapist - yes.  Then he verbally attacked her because she spurned him; anyone who doesn't want him must be lesbian.   Then he threatened her physically as SamX pointed out.  She warned him.

I agree.  It occurred to me when I was talking to my mother about gargoyles.  They are grotesque and vicious looking sitting on the tops of churches.  Their purpose is benign, to protect the architecture by diverting rainwater, but I see them differently.  I see them as more of spiritual protectors that threaten those who do show proper respect to the religious purpose of the structure.  If they weren't supposed to intimidate, they would be the cute little angels.  I just searched the origin of the word and surprise - the word "Gargoyle" originates from the old French word "Gargouille" meaning "throat".  Hmmm.

Buttercup, great connection of Sarah to a gargoyle. This lines up with our discussion somewhere else of Sarah as a manifestation of Kali (generally known as a goddess of death) from Hindu myth as a demon hunter and protector of innocence. I don't consider myself a savage, but I felt joy when Sarah attacks the creep. Part of that is that the creep was more of an idea than a fleshed-out character. But he did have flesh and she did shred it. I did not cringe in the least. Usually I would.

I read that thread intently, and I can see Kali in this entity, but not in Sarah.  I see her as a victim who is vulnerable and needs protection.  So she cooperates with the entity because all the booze and pills aren't enough.

I said 'sarah' for convenience. I also think Sarah is being protected by the entity in her. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah.  I figured that, since the Angels appear in the Old Testament, they'd be part and parcel of the same root mythology.

I don't have a religion, never received any religious upbringing.  What little I know - or think, I got from school and a bit of reading here and there, so my apologies for the error.

The guy in the bar was a complete asshole. Perhaps he deserved to be murdered by a demonic, supernatural entity residing inside Sarah Palmer but I doubt it would stand up in court, especially considering the U.S.'s first amendment. 😉

The first amaendment prevents the GOVERNMENT from limiting speech, political speech specifically. It does not prevent us from responding to assholes.

However this occured, it is clear that her face and clothing is not covered with blood, and I am guessing forensics will not be able to connect her with the crime.

Also, much as I love the core of the TPSD, law enforcement in TP is not exactly what you'd call efficient. If anything, I think this incident will draw Hawk's attention, and serve to tighten the strings as we move closer to a conjunction of forces...

Yes!

In the "real world" that response would be inappropriate.  But in the world of TP most especially and all the victimization of women, I cheered her like no other. I won't lie and say there have not been times when I wished I could respond the same when being harassed and threatened. And yes, he most definitely threatened her. Oddly enough, I've been severely harassed in that very same bar so this was a therapeutic moment/scene for me.

Good? Maybe.  Bad? Possibly. I'm not sure it needs to be so black and white.

I can't imagine how most of the murders or assaults in this show would be handled in a court of law.  Very different standards of proof.  Sarah shouldn't have to wait until she is raped or attacked to get this scumbag to go away.  She'd likely end up dead if she were on her own.

Brandy, your words made me cry.  I'm sorry to hear that you had a similar experience in this place, and I'm happy that the scene was therapeutic for you rather than pulling you into a tailspin.  I don't think men always understand what it's like to be in that situation.  Be careful.

No need to cry.  It's all a learning experience and my experience wasn't nearly as caustic as Sarah's was depicted. But can't say I didn't wish I could pull my face off and rip somebodies throat out.  But even if I could, I probably wouldn't.  It's just nice to see some empowerment for once (or maybe twice?) in the show.  😀

No need to apologize for the bug up my butt. The folks on this side of the pond who use that term tend to use it in a way that annihalates my culture, and to justify attitudes that are pretty abhorrent.

Which...is off topic and probably a violation of the Forum Code, so let's move on.

You are most gracious, Detective.

If I was Sarah, I wouldn't feel empowered after this event. She has to continue with the knowledge she killed someone in cold blood. She also has to continue living with that alien thing inside her. I imagine that is far worse than some asshole in a bar. When I watch her I'm filled with horror for her. I pity the poor woman. She's been through a lot.
