Did you notice in the end credits they put a couple of question marks instead of Carel Struycken's character's name (The Giant in the original series)?
Just checked on demand, and his name has been removed altogether.

When I saw that it made me wonder if everything we thought we knew about his character would be turned upside down.

We call him The Giant. He may have an actual name, like MIKE, and BOB. But also note that David Lynch didn't let any original cast members confirm they were playing their original characters.
I feel like it might be related to the situation we saw him in. This place that feels a lot like Eraserhead might have something to do with it
