Why the letters under the fingernails?

Something that's always puzzled me; if the letters were spelling out 'Robert', why would BoB want to give the game away? Was it Leiland subconciously turning BoB in as it were? Was it BoB showing off?

Either is possible.    We know Leland wasn't comfortable with his passenger,     but then again Bob has chutzpah in spades.      Perhaps even both,     maybe Bob let Leland have his moments,    but for me,    I totally think it was Bob all along,   simply rubbing it in the face of anyone that caught on.

I always felt that this was one the the writing issues from Season 1 to Season 2.  I think that Lynch and Frost has more tales to tell revolving around the letters but when they added writers to do Season 2, that's one of the elements that got lost.

I'd love to have a Season 2 (even if it was just in book form) that detailed what lynch and frost would have done.

In terms of Lynch, he's quoted , I think in his book, that the true Twin Peaks, The Return aside, is the Pilot, FWWM and the red room. Which eliminates a hell of a lot of the original series. I'd love to know what he would have done instead.

I think it was like a wedding ring. Bob can't be caught so he doesn't care about getting caught. To me this is a sign of his ownership over these women more than a calling card.
