I've never noticed this before and I'm sorry if its already been discussed, but in season 2 when Leland Palmer shows sheriff Truman and agent Cooper the picture of Bob and says he remembers him from his parents summer lake house, he says that the "Chalfonts were in the cabin next door".

I thought this was very interesting, given that Mrs Tremond is shown in this episode also.

The vicinity of Mrs Tremond/Chalfont to the location where Bob first possessed Leland is quite symbolic I think.

This article seems to say that the Tremonds and Chalfonts are the same people:

Yeah I remember they go by the name Chalfont in fire walk with me. What I thought interesting was that the Chalfonts/Tremonts had a cabin close to Bob and Leland Palmer.

There is certainly a connection implied there,   but exactly what it is seems to have been left up to the viewer to decide on.

Yeah, and if I remember correctly, all those characters meet at least once - so they are at least AWARE of each other, if not allied in some way.

I was confused because Mrs. Tremont complained about their being corn on her plate, but if she's a nasty demon, then wouldn't she want the Garmonbozia? If she's not a nasty demon that likes Garmonbozia, then what's she doing meeting up with BOB?

I never got the impression that the Temonts were nasty demons.

My impression is that the Tremonts are "free agent" Lodge entities, for lack of a better term.  If Twin Peaks is where the Black Lodge and White Lodge meet, then the woods surrounding Twin Peaks can be thought of as housing many different, less polarized lodges.  Tremont = Tree + Mountain = Lodge of the Woods.

From the Log Lady Intro, S1E1: "There are many stories in Twin Peaks... they all have about them a sense of mystery - the mystery of life. Sometimes, the mystery of death. The mystery of the woods. The woods surrounding Twin Peaks."

I don't remember the specifics at the moment, but I got the sense that Mrs. Tremont and her grandson are helping Laura in FWWM.  They give her the picture, warn her about the diary, etc.  The aversion to corn jibes with this.

Also, in FWWM, there's an empty lot in Trout Lake trailer park that's kitty corner to Teresa's trailer.  It had been occupied by folks named Chalfont - and the folks before that were also named Chalfont.  "Two Chalfonts!" says Carl.

I don't know the exact connection between the Chalfonts and the Tremonts, but I think it's significant that the Chalfonts appear/disappear before Black Lodge Murder and the Tremonts appear/disappear after.  That's why it's so scary in E18 when the previous owners of Laura's house are revealed to be Chalfont and Tremont!  It's another sign that Cooper is "between two worlds."

I also approve of this message all though I may not 100% agree with all of it.
