I didn't know of a better place to house this, so I picked this forum location..

I wonder if the events in Invitation To Love have also changed with Cooper having gone back in time...

Did Chet marry Jade instead of Emerald?

I can't speculate on a hypothetical plot, but I do often wonder about the significance of "Invitation to Love".

Obviously it's partly a comical device. The irony of the parody between the events happening in the Soap Opera, and the events in Twin Peaks is amusing (like the same actress playing Emerald/Jade, and the same actress playing Maddie/Laura, or how Leo watches Montana get shot as he himself is shot by Hank). Idiosyncratic lines like "Chetster, you little fruit loop." or the part where Emeralds tells Chester that he might as well have an affair with her, because even though he's married to her sister, "You always said you couldn't tell us apart." Yikes.  LOL.

But is that all the show was, a comic device? I wonder if the presence of the show within the show doesn't have more to it than mere amusement. I have heard other analysis/criticism of other Lynch works, like Inland Empire, where art-imitating-art is a significant theme, which speaks to the nature of reality and how we perceive it. That's kind of a general statement, I know, but that just illustrates how in the dark I still feel I am on the subject.

In any case, I send out an "Invitation to Discuss" 🙂
