Does anyone think he will have a more important part in this series to play?

I find it a bit strange that he was only briefly shown in one episode. I wonder if he has some important part to play as part of hawk / briggs / truman investigation.

I guess it was Harry who would call him and Big Ed to help. Not sure the Bookhouse Boys even exist anymore, but who knows? Big Ed has to show up at some point.

Shame he was such an underused/badly used character first time around.  All he ever seemed to do was mope around and that damn song was like fingernails down a blackboard.

I'm sure he's capable of better but dear sweet pink baby Jesus, most of the scenes featuring him were painful.

If that God awful song does play I hope it's put out of its misery in an entertaining fashion.

A howitzer shell through their house would do it for me.  😉

I've smashed many televisions with a hammer because of that song and scene.

The howitzer idea sounds grand. Haha

I remember seeing that scene for the first time, with my (now) ex wife, who turned to me and said "This is fucking dreadful, just give her a good shagging and shut up whining".

Haha. He had some mother of all whiney-whines that season. I think it's safe to say that we would've all been spared of that migraine inducing travesty  had the show been on Showtime back then. I can envision a FWWM inspired Donna aggrevisley working James over while asking for assistance from Maddy.

I'm hoping Ike the Spike escapes & disembowels Mr Moody with a teaspoon, before he can sing again...

Haha! And I actually liked that song! I still do. It got that 1950's vibe that I like. But at the time when it first aired, I couldn't understand why his singing voice almost sounded like a girl. But it's a great scene, not to mention what happens right after, when Maddy sees Bob.

And this is where I at least partially agree with you Eric:) The song is embarassing but what happenes next... is a masterpiece of horror! Always been, always will be...

The more I think about that song, the more I dislike it.  Even allowing for the fact that it's an obvious steal from the Bee Gees' "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" (I cannot stand the Bee Gees but that's not a bad song), it's grotesquely, uniquely horrible.  Not the worst song ever written...

but fucking close.

As for his singing voice, it's not that difficult to do, unless you're Tom Waits.  Even I can manage to do the squeaky thing (on a good day), although I've lost some of my range to cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women over the years.

As an aside, Tom Waits would be a perfect addition to the cast and as a musical contributor.  There's a lot of similarities between his stuff and the things that run through the Twin Peaks continuity.

In a way James was always singing that love song to the prostitutes at the roadhouse:  James was singing to Maddie and Donna because of their relation to Laura, was still obsessed with Laura, and never loved her, just his selfish enjoyment, that is why he went to Maddie right away, who looks more like Laura, closer to Laura then Donna.  Donna also  wanted to be like Laura as she was, as corrupted, only real one there was Maddie, which is why she was killed.

James and BOB are one and the same, much like old agent Cooper and BOB are one and the same.  James was evil, agent Cooper was evil.  James is much like BOB who needs Laura no matter what, while BOB is secretly like James counting on a prostitute to redeem his pain, some angel will save him regardless of how corrupted she is, like those prostitutes at the roadhouse.   James is hiding from the fact that the situation is rotten, thereby embracing it indirectly, while BOB embraces it directly, but one thing is for sure both James and BOB love twin peaks as it is, one is cynical, other tries to play down how this destroys the community and turns it into rubbish not worthy of BOB and James' excessive investment as it is, without its problems solved.  Laura, chasing her as if she was guaranteed to be golden, as if twin peaks was always guaranteed to be an ideal community no matter what it did to Laura or the people in the town, they are always still worthy of James admiration, who never confronted the fact that Laura had real problems and the town was rotten to the core. Agent cooper had the same problem and went mad, James may do the same in this series, getting caught in the 'congressmen's dilemma', not wanting to break national security(oswald killed kennedy, etc.), expose the criminals in 'government', idealize twin peaks, and thereby provide shelter and fuel for BOB, Mr. C, et al to continue operations indefinately.   Will James crack and go to evil  himself, maybe even get a woodsmen/BOB of his own, like agent cooper, a character who had the same weakness as James?  James can continue to imagine twin peaks is worthy of admiration (such a great place) and Laura was worthy of his chasing her because he hides, and in this way is much like BOB who also chases Laura no matter what.  James and BOB are two sides of the same thing, the slow boring decay and repeating the same, as white that provides shelter to black.  No matter what BOB and Laura do, twin peaks is great for James, problems never solved as long as James can get his enjoyment This hiding from the brutal reality contrasts with Bobby's confrontation with the town during Laura's funeral, his taking a stand.

James is headed for trouble, he comes back into Twin Peaks acting as if it is such a guaranteed great place(as he tells his friend)looking at Shelly and her friend, who then use the guarantee of 'good old James', community is fine, everything is great, to fall into the next 'Leo' in the community, the influential cocaine dealer Red.  White and black working together here, BOB, Red, et al, then set up to step in as the 'bad ones' who violate the town, cycle continues, more and more Laura's at the roadhouse, Laura's tragedy is trivialized, becomes normal, barbarism is normalized, slow decay of civilization, etc..... this is why Bobbys violent intervention at the funeral is so important, both BOB and James were guilty here in covering up the problems, letting the same continue, etc...James and BOB are 'mamas boys' incapable of doing what Bobby did at the funeral, confront and fight the corrupted rulers, then solving the problems....(mike cried when he admitted the fire walk with me tattoo secretly means 'mom'/mother/experiment)

If you're right then it's an extremely depressing outlook for the guy.  Still, as long as he doesn't get to sing that bloody awful song again, it's a win.

Perhaps he can be lured up to the Roadhouse with a promise of playing a gig there, then get shot to bits in slow-mo Sam Peckinpah style to the tune of "Heartattack and Vine".  Then, Tom Waits steps out from behind the Roadhouse with a shotgun in hand, saying, "Tricked you, fucker!"

This here tv script malarkey is dead easy; I should take it up. 😉

And then urinates on him afterwards. Has to urinate on him.
