The reason I was suspicious about the moan was because it's clearly a voice over in post production, and the focus seems to be on the arm in the hands up scene.

This morning's obsessive project: Discovering the reason for my confusion about Ike and his right arm. - visual aid below my text

A mirror's reflection reverses the horizontal axis but not the vertical. Whatever is on our right side is also on the right side of a mirror.

Over his shoulder, in the mirror we see Ike on the phone. We can see his right arm is hidden and he's using his left hand to drink, even though he's right handed. He gets up and we keep watching him in the mirror. As he goes to the bed, we an see his left arm isn't bandaged, as expected. BUT - his right arm isn't bandaged/in a cast either.

Enlarge this so you can take a good look at Ike's right arm. When he's still in the room, no costume piece was used on his arm. There was no cast or bandage. When he first steps in the hall, his jacket is draped over his arm so we can't see the cast. When he's cornered by the police, only then is it revealed that he's wearing a cast. Before seeing it, we were suspecting he's probably wearing a cast - then it's visually confirmed.

To keep our first view of the cast to take place when he's trapped in the hall, a cast wasn't used in the motel room, to avoid even a glimpse of it. It was a small cheat to make sure the reveal didn't happen until he raised his arms int he hall.

Mystery solved - at least to my satisfaction!

Is watching Twin Peaks: The Return making me more obsessive than I already was?  Maybe so!

Which is essentially what I said. ?

Try as I may, I cannot find a suitable emoji for "Extremely Smug Sam".

Hi, SamXTherapy - I'm only now seeing your earlier post where you talk about the horizontal axis flipping in a mirror, yes indeed. The right side of something is seen as the left side in the mirror image, while that mirror image is still on the right side of the mirror in reference to our orientation. But it turns out that the mirror image has nothing to do with what I noticed.

What confused me initially is that when Ike walks to the bed, we can see that neither arm has a cast on it. When we could see his right arm wasn't bandaged at that point, I thought somehow they'd screwed up with the prop - but as can be seen in my screen shot composite, there's no cast on his arm until he's in the hall and he raises his hands. They wanted to make sure no glimpse of a cast was seen until that moment. See? Your new reply isn't correct, my post this morning with the image isn't what you said earlier. If what I'm saying isn't clear, enlarge the upper row of images so you can see there's no cast.

I'll look around for an Extremely Smug emoji for both of us to use. 😎

I just love have we can totally geek out over minuscule details like that and don't feel any kind of shame about it 🙂

What is this "Shame" you speak of, spaceman?  I'm a member of Project Dalek so I know all about geekiness.

hehehe - indeed. This observation about a cast not being on Ike's arm until he's in the hallway is extremely trivial. Not a discovery of yet another TP mysterious clue, just a film making choice. But it was fun looking into it. I appreciate the replies.

I thought it looked more like a LOT of bandages than an actual cast, and it is POSSIBLE that he did it himself, between this scene and his leaving the room (I also watched that scene a million times trying to figure it out with the mirror).

And for what it's worth, I still think it is unclear that the moan is not coming from the hand. In an episode in which a foot speaks, can a hand not moan (yes, Jerry is quite high, but Ike is quite drunk!).

Hey, good stuff, MJ! Yes, looks like it could be a lot of bandages. I wasn't sure, so sometimes have typed phrases like "cast/bandages" - whatever it is. It's giving his wrist so much inflexible support, I thought perhaps a cast. --

And that's a cool theory that he maybe put it on himself between the room scene and the hallway scene. But we do see him getting his stuff off the bed, then after a quick shot of the cops going into the building, we see Ike stepping into the hall. The impression is continuous action. I'm staying with the concept that he picks his stuff up from the bed and goes straight to the door and out into the hall - it was just decided to hold off on using a cast/bandages on his arm until the reveal moment with his hands up.

While he's still in the room, they're trying to not show the arm, but as you also saw in those frames after he gets up from the chair, we can see there's nothing on his arm.

AND I like your comment about how it's possible for a hand to moan when we have a foot that talks in another scene!  lol - Good one! It still seems to me it's a simple little groan Ike is making.

Ike related side note - I saw someone comment here about Ike's spike getting bent. It was such a quirky choice to have it bent at perfectly right angles, unlike what would actually happen. Another special Twin Peaks dimension touch. 😎

It's definitely not a cast, you just don't do those at home or by yourself. It's a bandage he made himself, a rather large bandage. My guess is, that he's got something up his sleeve (or bandage), probably an icepick, which will help him escape from the Fuscos.

The hand IS moaning, and is thinking "do these people have nothing better to do with their time?"

(-;

Quite drunk?  We saw him take two drinks.  Not enough to make a mouse drunk where I come from.  Granted the bottle was empty then but there's no way of knowing how much was in there before the scene began.

Anyhow, it wasn't the hand moaning.  So there.  😉
