In the scene between Ben and Beverley, Ben says he can't do it. To me, it just seems totally obvious why this is. The man is in his 70s. There's a significant chance "Little Ben" isn't quite as lively as he once was. This just seemed obvious to me. Anyone else?

To me it wasn't about that. I'm sure little Ben would quite happily have a rummage 😀

Instead I saw it as one of two things:

1 - he's still trying to uphold his newfound positive ways.

2 - something more sinister we're yet to uncover. Perhaps he is one step ahead of her and he suspects she is after something, so he's playing her at her own game.

Funny how many people think the equipment stops functioning after a certain age.  I sure got some remarks when I became a dad at 50, then again at almost 53.  Don't believe all the spam posts about erectile dysfunction or viagra; some of us are just naturally... virile. 😉

I just bet Ben is raring to go but his new found morality is holding him back.  That's how I read it, anyhow.

I thought that scene was meant to display Ben's shift in morality. Beverly's initial willingness and then disappointment really stood out to me. In the end, she seemed more disappointed in herself. (wonder how Johnny's status will play into Ben's future reaction to Bev)

On the lighter side, if I had been acting in Ben's place, I would've made damn sure we had to re-shoot that cuddle-scene over and over and over 😉

Agreed. I think Ben had a monumental shift in morality after Audrey confronted him about One Eyed Jacks and he confessed his love for Laura.

Well, a lot can happen in 20 years between 53 and 73 😀

By the way, you don't look 53 in your profile picture. You look more like early to mid 40s. You also look a lot like David Bowie. Has anyone ever told you that?

Remember the last time we saw Ben in season 2 he was trying to be a good man.  And as he tried to fix the past he was injured (much like his son was in the past episode). He knows he needs to be a good man.  And for 25 years he has tried to maintain his 'goodness'.  But I feel his soul is still bad.  His soul and base urges want Beverly. He will keep fighting his feelings but Beverly isn't going to give up.

It could be something sinister, but I am not sure it has much to do with her. I don't think it is about either morality or virility. He isn't a happy man anymore. He probably really doesn't even know why, just as he told her.

Perhaps he's unhappy because he's dedicated his life to building a profitable business empire no matter what the cost is to those around him. He's spent his life earning all that money, and for what?

This is the thing with money. While being poor can make your life miserable, being rich won't make you happy. I seem to remember reading somewhere that studies have been done on this. Once somebody has enough money to live comfortably, having even more money does not improve their life. Wealthy celebrities end up effectively prisoners in their ultra-secure mansions.

In a similar way, Ben has build his own prison around himself.

I wonder what they're going to do with the old key of room 315. I hope that leads to something.

Ben said that the Great Northern sound reminded him of a monastery bell; that's an image rich in goodness and chastity.  The sound might be influencing his behaviour.  It's not sinister, it's White Lodge.  I expect this to be quite a theme in future episodes.

I wonder if the return of the key has anything to do with the sound in the room, and the behavior of Beverly and Ben.  They seem to like being in there - in fact, I don't think we've seen them anywhere else since the sound began, have we?  Like the key's return has created some kind of harmonic convergence.

I think Chris is onto something.

Could it also signal the impending return of Laura Palmer?
