If you guys noticed, at the last shot of going inside the explosion, a reflective, liquid metal-like substance emerged, its surface reflecting all the golden fire around it.

There was a comic book I loved that had occult stuff, aliens, Roswell, and atom bomb.  In it, the same quicksilver substance also came into this world by splitting the atom.

The 2 creators must be referencing the same material.  Does anyone know about this?  I'd like to know more.

Wasn't there something about needing silver AND gold - or have I started imagining things?? 😉

That could be the substance's origin...

Didn't it look like the same substance that came out of Dougie when he popped?

And I love that it matched up with the Lewis account from the Secret History:
"Lights from the sky, the silvery spheres... music, like some heavenly choir... fire that burns but does not consume...colors unseen or unimagined, flowing from all things...gold, bright and shining..."

Which implies that Lewis saw the explosion from 1945 in 1805 via the Lodge.

Do you mean the golden sphere?

No, that's solid, a perfect sphere.  This one is amorphous like liquid metal.  And I suspect the color is silver not gold, just its golden fire surrounding makes it reflect that.

The camera goes into this substance, and we see dark red for a while, then that fades into the purple ocean.

What comic book are u talking about? Let us know it!

It's called The Invisibles (Grant Morrison)

It parallels with TP : There are 2 dimensions, the good one is called Invisible College, a place of knowledge and freedom, and a sick corrupt one called the Outer Church, that sends evil agents into the world.  The overlap of these 2 dimensions created a hologram that is our world.

The mercury-like substance seeped into our world from the rift opened by the atom bomb, it's been called "God, trapped inside its own creation."

Near the end, one of the protagonists walked into a large floating mass of the substance, and came to the Outer Church.

Just like the camera taking us into the substance and we came to the purple sea and the tower.

Well, in that sentence he meant the edges of the formica table.  But the significance of the table hasn't been explained.

I'm just wishing that these parallels between the 2 stories mean that both creators were taking from the same source of information in real life, that they embellished in their fiction.

Because I know both of them are adept at meditation.

Because wouldn't it be cool if life imitates art?

In fact, Grant is adept to a lot of stuff besides meditation, including the ritual use of psychoactive substances to delve into other aspects of reality, which I believe David Lynch doesn't approve (don't know about Mark Frost). But anyway, there are A LOT of thematic and even stylistic parallels between the world of Twin Peaks and the one of The Invisibles, in my opinion. Those include different realities with bizarre logic and some resemblance to human reality, conspiracy, light vs. darkness, time travel, reflections and journeys which deal with the human experience and the acquiring of wisdom, the contrast between violence and beauty and cosmic forces which play a long-term dispute through the ages, with humankind in the middle. Plus, a 90's worldview and relationship with pop culture, shady business conducted by the Government and the occult.

A nice touch to draw a parallel between that gellatinous  cristalline thing and the Magic Mirror. That didn't occur to me before, but now that you said it, it seems pretty clear to me. I remember Mason Lang (I believe this is his name) talks about Invisibles living in the world, making films/TV series/other works of art that bring messages to other Invisibles. I wonder what Mr. Lang would think of Twin Peaks. Plus, now that the Magic Mirror is on, I'm waiting at the edge of my seat for King Mob to appear and shaolin the shit out of Mr. C. 😛

Plus: someone please do a montage of the old iteration of The Arm (Michael J. Anderson's Man From Another Place) meeting Mr. Quimper. The internet deserves this.

Mercury is a silvery color. If it's Mercury, remember that Mercury is the messenger of the gods, and the answering machine also turned into a silvery colored substance, after the woman who got stabbed with an ice pick texted the word ARGENT to it. Argent is a tincture of silver. Mercury is also known as quicksilver. Mercury's symbol, along with the caduceus as you probably know, is the purse, like Jane-E's purse, as he is also the god of commerce. Hel-ooo-ooo.

Or maybe it's gold. Dougie turns into a golden ball. Gold is the color of Apollo. Apollo drives the sun across the sky in his chariot. Dougie's child is named Sunny Jim. (Sunny Jim Jones by the way. Jim Jones was a cult leader in the 1970s. His "Peoples Temple" all died by drinking green Flavor-aid with sodium cyanide in it. Jim Jones was obsessed, among other things, with obtaining an atomic bomb).

Saturn is a titan, the father of Jupiter and Neptune, and there's a Saturn model on the end table in the waiting room. The conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter are important in season 2.

So, I don't have a clear answer, but clearly astrology and alchemy are involved, and there are patterns.

Let's see if the substance shows up again later.  If it doesn't, maybe it was just a coincidence or maybe Lynch didn't mean it to be a mercury-like substance emerging from the center of explosion, but I just thought it that way.

But if it shows up again and showing more Magic Mirror properties, then the 2 guys must be referencing something they know or heard of, and that thing is... real!

Either that, or Lynch is a huge fan of Morrison.  ?

Ahaha - that's awesome, TibiusReynolds!  Sonny Jim Jones > > Jim Jones, the proverbial drink the Kool-Aid guy!!  ?

The substance is what the communicator in Argentina disintegrated into isn't it?
The box that was receiving agent Jeffries calls.

The green owl ring was made by the surface of the formica table. I saw a picture somewhere of showing a hole the size of the ring in the surface.
