Whether you are in the camp who thinks it's a work of art (me and plenty of others), or you hate it (the rest of you), there's one thing nobody has yet thought of...
Just watch, in the next few years we are going to see endless, badly done, poorly conceived copies of it, shoehorned into just about every tv drama from now on. In the same way as the original show spawned a thousand copies, this one episode is going to be responsible for a lot of pretentious, unwatchable television.
I think you're right. But on a more positive note, perhaps it will enable TV executives to give directors a bit more free rein. Perhaps we'll be seeing more Avant Garde directors offered the opportunity to produce major TV series.
I for one would love a Darren Aronofsky tv series 🙂

...Yep...probably even commercials...it's like the California bands in the late 60's-they all had to play the obligatory 15 minute "freak out" jam ,complete with electric organ playing Arabian scales....a lot of it was so bad it was comical.

Oh, the horror! I love a bit of musical virtuosity and I've even been known to listen to Prog now and again but I cannot stand pointless, pretentious widdly widdly noodling.
The only problem was that it was perfect

Well, maybe so far, it terms of what's capable of being achieved in the medium, but I hope the rest of the series will be of the same high standard.
As for other shows in relation to the experience of Episode 8, I think of Simon Bolivar's statement, "Fear those who follow me". I foresee an awful lot of a lot of awful TV.
Though The Simpson's version could be good! 🙂
You don't have to watch any of them, though 🙂
True, and I won't. I don't have much time for tv, anyhow. When Peaks is finished, so am I.

This just made me think they'll probably do a family guy version 😀
It will probably sneak in where you least expect it. We'll be watching random shows and just find yourself excited at first and be "that is so twin peaks.". Then after several times of identifying it, we'll just shake our heads.
However, it may make for much more interesting programming. Perhaps this will be inspiration for the future of television.
