I have been thinking about the possibility that maybe they are more like doppelgangers, with one in the lodge and one out in the world (like with Coop). It always seemed like Mike in the lodge in the old stuff was not so helpful/evil, whereas every time we have seem him in the new stuff he has been helpful to Coop. Also, in the credits it says Philip Gerard. So, wild theory that maybe there are two beings at play here, and maybe they have switched places in the past 25 years, and maybe THIS was the person Mr. C was talking to when he thought he was calling Jeffries in ep2 or whatever... I realize that is getting pretty speculative

Mike was VERY helpful, you haven't seen FWWM have you?

Before Mike was always trying to help and trying to catch Bob, but I think maybe he also came across as creepy.  Screaming at Laura in the middle of the road, coming and going like a stalker.  Though not an evil doppelgänger obviously.

But in seas3 though, he is shown to actually care about Cooper, telling him to wake up and don't die like that, giving Coop those Lodge lights above the slot machines, the dots of light on the work files.  Because Coop is completely helpless, and none of the humans are helping him, and so the Lodge now helps him.  It's touching.

?  Karen, what do you think about Mike and Gerard played by the same actor?

On the contrary, I was thinking in particular of stuff from FWWM, such as when Michael J. Anderson puts his hand on Al Strobel's shoulder and they say "Bob, I want all of my garmonbozia" etc. That is in the lodge/red room. Whereas Philip Gerard in mundane reality is adamant about trying to distance himself from the Arm (he cut it off) and says he is working against Bob. Sorry if I didn't put it well by using language like 'helpful/unhelpful'. I don't think good/evil is quite right either. My big suggestion was just that maybe these two are more along the lines of doppelgangers as opposed to a possessing spirit kind of situation. (I do think Bob is the latter and does not have a doppelganger, btw).

Or maybe I am just off base with all of this 🙂

We can be off base, it's cool.

Karen might yell at us, but that's okay....  ?

Hmm, so far there's only 1 Lodge spirit shown with doppelgänger : the Arm.  So it's hard to tell if you're right or not about the possessing and doppelgänging dichotomy.  All other doppelgängers are human souls that are in the Lodge.  (BTW, when I first saw Ike, since he's the only other little guy in the show, I thought he could be the Arm's host.  But I guess not)

But anyway I really don't think Mike at the end of FWWM was doppelgänger because doppelgängers always look pointedly evil (filmy white pupils, scary expression), even the talking tree with no face.

the Giant Host isn't the old man saying "I heard about you!!!" on and on and on???

Wait, when did this happen?  The Giant's host is the Great Northern's old, skinny, tall waiter, who sadly apologized to Cooper at the roadhouse the time Maddy was murdered.

Who said " I heard about you!", Jonathan?

we always see the Old man before the giant appear or at least the old man is always present when the giant appear and we see the giant and the old man side by side in the black lodge saying "one and the same"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLvZG6FgWLA

Yep, that's him.  Didn't remember him saying "I heard about you."  ?  The hosts match the spirits, right?  Giant's host is tall, DoppelDale grew his hair like Bob, Gerard is one-armed like Mike, and the Arm is short because he's not a whole body.

it's true for almost all of them....But for me phillip michael gerrard might have been possessed by both mike and bob....bob while in control might have get a tattoo on his arm and mike took the arm off to get rid of any sign of bob possession....that's how I see it

Guy's go back to season two when Mike/Gerrard get interrogated By cooper and he is explaining the basis of possession....you'll get the answer...

it's look like this!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJgBQdCcvbI

This video says the Arm is actually Mike.

It's supported by the FWWM script.  But it also conflicts with some facts : the man has introduced himself as the Arm, and it fits perfectly with Mike having cut off his arm, and with his host Gerard having 1 arm (hosts seem to end up with similar appearance as their spirits : Giant's tall host, Mike's one-armed host, DoppelDale growing his hair.  With the exception of Leland).

This makes me think that these might be discrepancies caused by creating a story for a long period of time, where things evolve and new ideas can turn a character's or thread's direction, causing bits of inconsistencies with the past.

I kinda think Laura now a saviour is such case.

lealand got his hair silver grey after jaques renault murder....

I'm not sure about that one.  Because Leland had been possessed by Bob since boyhood, so why manifest a Bob physical characteristic so late.  And what's the significance of Renault here.

Someone theorized it's because Renault is Leland killing outside of Bob possession.  I dunno.
