I used to think it was as well, but no. I guess they had to cut stuff, but it really doesn't feel like they have been travelling in FWWM.They say "let's go" & they leave the RH. "Welcome to Canada" is to announce the location to the audience. TP is supposed to be 5 miles from the Canadian border, which is not a long car trip.
Maybe it's because I was 16 when I saw it for the first time, but I didn't realize that they were in a different place. So Missing pieces really cleared that up for me.
Yeah i remember i thought the same, in FWWM i just assumed they went in a back room, but in the missing pieces was yrev very clear..

I think it's the power of Lynch's dream-world that enticed me to see something not there (plus my half-asleep state at the time). I'm thinking this scene might be "you must be this patient to watch this show" test - if you're willing to sit through three minutes of floor sweeping, you have what it takes to watch (and appreciate) the whole thing.
