This had to be one of the most detailed and multi-faceted segments. Aside from the bad floor sweeping scene. He really could have benefited from a better broom.

And here is one of my monstrous aggravations about this season....the new characters.....  And here with the introduction of Beverley's husband.....why? WHY?! why?

With a roster of more than 200 characters, audiences are likely to find “Twin Peaks” bewildering at first.

This is from a may 2017 article.

More than 200 characters, and yes, some of them were bewildering like Tom, Berverley's husband.

Nothing more to say about him.

Or  about the sweeper guy.

Bewildering.

I just re watched episode 7 for the first time since the original airing, and I loved the episode so much more this time round. Brandy calls it multi faceted. I think this is a perfect description.

The sweeping scene IMO is a direct reference to FWWM, after the club scene with Donna and Laura at the roadhouse - after,  the camera zooms in on the floor to show piles and piles of cigarettes. I believe this is a throwback.

Remember, in The Return, it's a no smoking joint. Lynch wants us to focus on the cigarettes! And then Renault clarifies that the seedy part of the roadhouse still continues - it's still run by the Renault family, and they still deal in prostitution. I am left wondering who the client was he was referring to.

One of the scenes I was left pondering over was Lynch's whistling scene. He has his hearing aids turned up high, and he is whistling a very specific set of notes in a loop. It sounded familiar to me but I couldn't put my finger on it at the time. Maybe someone else has already cracked this and mentioned it somewhere else.

Also the scene with Cole where he shows Tammy the spiritual finger (very/yrev) - this made me wonder if other slow speeches are made where the second word denotes a spiritual clue. Given that Lynch shows us this clearly to see, I see no reason that there aren't some spiritual finger clues left to uncover!

The scene with Andy and the farmer must be really important. Who was he fearful of and who killed or stopped him from meeting with Andy? And was it just coincidental that Jerry also claimed his car was stolen, or is he tapping into something due to his altered state?

The scenes with Diane are all the more tragic now we know the full set of facts concerning her background.

I'm sure I've not suggested anything that nobody has already posted, but I'm yllaer, really enjoying The Return the second time round!

Gordon's whistling, as I read somewhere, is a set of notes that appear (possibly originated from, I haven't really dug) in the Rammstein song, Engel.

Here:

and the lyrics englishified (again, I haven't independently verified any of this):

Post Script:  Or it's something else entirely.

Yes, Rammstein, and also Amacord (I think it is meant to allude to both)

Further, if you put the two references together, you get something like "Remember Angel (?)" and that seems fitting
