As we saw when Gordon & Albert arrived, a young stud is leaving. Whether  a one-night thing or ongoing relationship, that suggests to me the thing in the past may not have been a rape, just "Mr. C." used her when she though it was Coop, and then walked away from her after, feeling his coldness was not like him, but unsure.

Yeah I thought this too, but initially I did think rape when she asked him when did they last meet.

I also think maybe the things he did to her sexually  turned her in such a way that she became this lusty woman.  I don't think she was lusty at all before, I mean this guy was recording messages for her about cherry pies and pine trees.

Good girl gone bad?  ?  (Cheesyy...)

We assume that Diane previously had a positive relationship with Coop prior to the end of season 2.

For all we know, him bleating on about the best cherry pie, coffee and Douglas Firs drove her round the bend!

😀

Doesn't Cooper get to mention his love for Annie in the tapes for Diane? If so, I doubt Cooper and Diane had had any kind romantic involvement. I'm betting it was Mr. C who went to visit her back when he had not developp.ed an identity so far apart from Cooper yet

From the beginning, I never believed that Diane was real. How did that stuff Cooper taped reach her? He never seemed to be talking to a real person; he was just keeping track of this thoughts and activities and gave the recipient a name, much as someone might give their journal a name. It struck me as a strange way to communicate with someone.

But now it appears she really exists. But who is she/was she, in his earlier life? A secretary or administrative assistant? Some kind of partner in the FBI? A relative?  Did she even work for the FBI, do we know that?

I can't help but lean toward the position of one of the posters above, who suspected that bad Coop was figuring out what to say to Diane when she questioned him at the prison. I got the impression that he didn't even know who the hell she was.

But who knows, maybe the rape and trauma theories are correct.

In FWWM they had originally considered having a scene with Diane at the FBI, but decided not to.
He overnight shipped the tapes. At one point on the show he asked her to overnight ship him some ear plugs, and they came.

I always thought that Diane was a close relative of Basil Exposition...

Oh jeez - if you're late to the party and haven't watched past episode 7, might best you not be reading this here.

-- Fair Warning --

What now do we make of Diane and Mr.C after seemingly she is working surreptitiously in league with Mr.C.  If she's so wounded and scorned, why then is she allowing herself to be used at her peril?

Love would explain all that nonsense, and often it's the only rationale behind nonsense.  But she doesn't seem ambivalent; she doesn't seem to be struggling with the right thing in her head vs heart.  I get the feeling that she's pursuing a consistent goal, but I can't for the life of me understand what that is.  Maybe her last night with Coop/Mr.C left her with great animosity towards the bureau and she is consistently acting against their interests, siding with Mr.C.  But she seemed genuinely upset after the prison interview.  Curiouser and curiouser...

My take.....Mr C knows something dark about her and has told her he will expose it I imagine that night to shake her off his tail to free him up to do as he pleases.  When they need her to help them she knows if she doesn't play it his way he will expose it.
