Here is a thread to examine the twins in Twin Peaks.

It has often been noted that a number of the characters in Twin Peaks share names.

Bobby Briggs and Bob. Dougie Jones and Dougie Milford. All the Bills this season. Who else?

Siblings are also relevant I think. The Milford Brothers, Dougie and Dwayne. Sherrifs Harry Truman and Frank Truman. Bradley and Rodney Mitchum. Ike the Spike and Little Mike?

I'm also interested in how they seem to be playing with the idea of twins in the casting of the new show. Jim Belushi is largely famous as being the brother of John Belushi. I never watched Wild Palms, but it was always noted as being heavily influenced by Twin Peaks... like a doppleganger of the show. Now Jim Belushi and Ernie Hudson have shown up on Twin Peaks, both of whom were apparently on that show (note: as did the wonderful Robert Loggia in Lost Highway).

I'm really starting to buy into the idea that many of Lynch's movies have taken place in the same world (or dream world) as Twin Peaks. With the brilliant new episodes, I'm starting to see Twin Peaks more as a part of a larger artwork that likely includes Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire and Eraserhead.

Could Dale Cooper and Diane Evans literally be Jeffrey Beaumont and Sandy Williams from Blue Velvet?

I think Kyle MacLachlan elaborated on the parallels between Jeffrey Beaumont and Dale Cooper and there's definitely an argument that can be made already for a Sandy/Diane parallel.

There's also the fact that Blue Velvet was an exploration of Jeffrey's darkest side and how he could become similar to Frank Booth, while TPR is exploring Cooper's evil doppelganger, and so on.

And yes, as I wrote somewhere else, I firmly believe that Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks/Fire Walk With Me, Wild at Hearts, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and INLAND EMPIRE (*) all happens in the same universe -  I actually go a step further and assume that said 'shared universe' is in fact the "Inland Empire" (which, to me, always sounded like a wonderful expression to descripe the "realm of the mind", the borderland where consciousness, unconscious and subconscious meet) - which may or may not be the reason why Lynch was adamant that that title is to be spelled in full uppercase.

(*) I'd also include Industrial Symphony n° 1 and the whole Crazy Clown Time album, in this list.

Yeah, I am not completely convinced it is all a shared universe/dream, but it seems increasingly likely... there have been a whole lot of visual and thematic references to his other works in the first six episodes. Could just be Lynch's visionary bag of tricks, or there could be more to it. Jeffrey and Dale always seemed to me to be cut from the same cloth, but that they could actually be the same person had not been an idea I would have previously taken seriously. Laura Dern being cast as Diane makes this possibility seem considerably more likely. Or maybe Jeffrey and Sandy are just a couple more twins. In any case, I think Dougie could do an excellent chicken walk.
