I am really afraid (I don't want it!) that Dougie/Coop will in fact die... We know that one of them has to and Dougie is competely vulnerable, unprotected and chased by some really bad individuals.
Also, how do we imagine the Jones family life after Cooper regains his self? His wife, his son (!) will hear that they're completely strangers and Dougie has to return to FBI?

With Lynch, any plot twist is possible, including Dougie/Coop and his "family," meeting horrible ends. I am prepared for the worst (that) but hopeful all three will come out of this alive.

I really don't understand how some people thought that this episode was "boring" or stuff like that, when in fact I was scared shitless (not to mention a whole range of other emotions) during the whole hour, for the exact same reason ella mentioned in the OP...
Not that I assumed Coopgie was going to die in this specific episode, but there's a sense of dread, slowly building behind the curtains, behind the tragedy of a mind, once perpetually active and tireless like Cooper's was, reduced to wander around, almost unaware of itself but - at the same time - conscient enough to understand its own inadequacy, to feel pain, shame, fear, joy.
I haven't felt this much different and conflicting emotions - and on such a slowly, deconstructed narrative - in a very long time... actually, despite being somewhat of a movie/tv show buff, I'm not sure I've ever felt something like this.
I am not worried about Janey-e or Sonny Jim being left in the cold when Coop regains himself.
as for Coop meeting a horrible end, i think that is also unlikely - Maclachlan and Lynch have hinted that a fourth season isn't impossible, which makes me think Coop lives.

Not only episode was great but also incredibly sad. The Dougie plot is not funny anymore as I considered it as a hilarious satire, now I feel the overall sense of dread and end. Beautiful music - called by myself Dougie's theme just became another Angelo's masterpiece of TP canon.
Mike in the Red Room is aware of what is going on, that is, in whatever ways these "other-place people" have awareness. "You've been tricked" and "you have to wake up" , he says, as though there is no guarantee Coop will wake up, whatever waking up means in this reality. Maybe it is the bad Coop who needs to survive, so that somehow Bob can finally be destroyed. If bad Coop dies, Bob just goes elsewhere. Remember Mike's mission in Twin Peaks was to find Bob via Phillip. He must know some way to destroy Bob. I really like the series, but wonder if I could stay with it, if I were not already a big fan from the beginning.

This is pretty much what I'm assuming will happen. Maybe by refusing to pay the $52,000 they'll come after (and maybe kill Janey-E and [son character]) which will allow his instinct to kick in?

I completely understand, that's a common thread in the other TP forums as well. 25 years after watching the original, our culture has sped up to the point where we're not as used to waiting for episodes as we used to be...DL could be poking fun at that phenomenon...no, I don't think he's deliberately irritating us as other forums suggest...just building suspense like mad.
