I think Coop is fixated on the statue because it either reminds him of an FBI man or Harry S. Truman, or himself, or all of the above.

I'm hoping the car bomb investigation will get the Feds attention. It's killing me watching Cooper like this.

Also, I was intrigued with Dougie's license plate. DUGE LV. Duge is a Danish word meaning help or to be useful, or be good enough. Dougie has been useful to Dark Coop. Just thought it was interesting.

"Duge" does not mean help or to be useful in danish.

Duge, in danish, means; tablecloths 🙂

maybe dougie's name is a play on Dugpa, the tibetan group windom earle was interested in back in season 2?

to me, the initial blue velvet/twin peaks connection in the stories is pale face/black lips forms of people who are being drawn to the black lodge.  Laura and Windom Earle in TP have the same look as Ben the Suave Man in BV (and the camcorder-holding creep in Lost Highway).  Both also feature severed ears (Lynch re-used the prop).

@Yambag021: I won't venture into specific answers this early in the series - everytime I come up with a theory, I almost instantly realize that there are too many things left open for it to be really solid - but I can tell you this: with the (relative) exception of Dune, The Elephant Man and The Straight Story, all of Lynch's works tie into each other (hell, even the video for "Crazy Clown Time" does) and in this new series, even if we are only on 5 out of 18, there are references and connections even into some of his older short movies.

Lynch has a very specific visual language that's built and expanded upon through out his whole body of work. All this to say that, if you haven't seen Blue Velvet (or any of his other movies, really) I really suggest you do : -) You will not get a lot of answers, but the overall picture will definitely become clearer.

Before episode 5, I said to my wife "I'm done with thinking into stuff on this show. I'm just gonna watch and bank on lynch unraveling it all by the end. No matter how good the theories sound, they are always wrong".

Five min after the episode......I'm here.....So much for that lol.

Thanks, for that, my earlier info must have been the result of a bad google search ?

Ben does not have that look. And in the car trunk( TP ) it is just a small chunk of raw meat, not an ear.

I've been deliberately trying to watch the episodes, trying to savor them by watching each twice before the next.  I just watched #5 for the first time yesterday and this was my take on Dougie's car:

The assassins planted the explosive device and then the a group of unrelated car thieves came upon the car, intent on stealing it.  We know at least one guy was killed and possibly burned beyond recognition (as we see him flaming away near the car).  Investigators will think it was Dougie and that may stir up a whole new twist.  Of course the kid saw what actually happened and that will likely eventually be brought into the investigation.

Really enjoying The Return.  Episode 5 seems more like a set-up episode - less action but more backstory.  Still loved seeing the subtle transformation into BoB in the mirror and seeing Nadine listening to Jacoby.

He's this player kind of character, with the experience of probably more than one prostitute. Green suits,  long hair lol... Definitely Dougie-Luv
