I am quite aware and appreciate Lynch's avant garde style of film making. I have watched everything David has put out so I was quite prepared to try to follow the story. But this was to much and all over the place. Maybe I should wait for all 18 episodes before commenting on my trying to understand.

-  What was the symbolism of Jacoby and the shovels?
-  The glass box?   Was that the containment of evil?
-  Doppleganger? Is the long hair Cooper the Bob possessed Cooper while good cooper remains in the Black Lodge.  And thats not to mention the events episode three in which I will bring up in that thread for those who have just seen the first 2.

Your opinions please...

- The shovel project seems like another one of Jacoby's experiments, like that red & blue gasses.

- I hope to see the FBI get over to New York to explore the glass box. Who's the millionaire running the project? The same person who called a $500k hit on Mr. C?

Other things worth noting: Phillip Jeffries was mentioned a few times. Coop's doppelganger seems to think he is on the other end of the phone, but it might be Phillip Gerard?

There's a FOURTH Renault?! Walter Olkewicz was credited as another Renault and I saw him tending bar in the background of the final Roadhouse scene... right where Jacques used to work. Any other things of note?

Did I get reported? Is that why all of my replies are awaiting moderation approval?

Guy, I am sorry if using the F word was offensive. I want to delete it but don't know how.  Did you report me? Can you contact them and see if I can post without moderation approval? I am really sorry.

Shelly I wouldn't worry about it. The moderator of this forum probably has a setting to where all new members post have to be approved to prevent spammers and internet trolls from disrupting of the fun of the forum.  And the moderator is probably one or two people that will wake up the next day and see to his moderator duties.   Sit tight and be patient.   🙂

I got the sense that Dr Jacoby may now be an installation artist. I like the idea that it's one of his experiments, but I also think he could be creating art now.

The glass box is next to another portal to the black lodge, like Glastonbury Grove. Evil Coop was asking about coordinates: it was the coordinates to this other portal. I wonder where all the other portals are? And who is funding the watching of the NY portal? Consider if that same person funded a watcher at Glastonbury Grove--what would that look like?

I still don't really know who/what killed the two lovers. Something that followed Coop out of the Lodge? The doppleganger arm? We shall see!

We all have to wait for more clues and info before we are clear and sure for many things.

Jacoby probably experiments again with something

The Glass box was one of my favorite moments which i believe it's something that traps or keeps inside the boundries whatever that thing was, type of alien? a spirit from BL?

The Coop with the long hair, Mr. C, looks like the evil doppelganger

Of course Mr C is the evil doppelganger. If the doppelganger is possessed by BOB on the other hand is unclear, Mr C can just have been created by BOB to go out and spread chaos as Cooper as some kind of revenge maybe for Cooper intervening in BOB:s business in season 2. On the other hand when the doppelganger talks with a Philip in part 2, Philip says that he must return to the Black Lodge so Philip can have BOB back if I heard him right? That must be Philip Gerard but Doppelganger Coop thinks it's Philip Jeffries he is talking to. The only way for good Special Agent Dale Cooper to get out is for the doppelganger to return to the Black Lodge the tree says in EP 2. It must mean that there can only be one out in "our" world, 2 can not exist at the same time,  if so one of them must die. Evil Coop don't want to return but don't have a choice, thats how Mr Jones comes in to the picture. I don't want to explain this further since that is Part 3&4.

The thing in the cage was clearly the doppelganger of "The Arm", the second tree that screwed Cooper over just when he was getting out in Part 2.

I do recall waaaay early on when it was first announced that there would be a new season of TP there was some mention of golden shovels filtering through the community. Though I can't really offer any insights on the significance, it's neat to see the relevance of that mysterious term come to fruition in the show after hearing about it early on.

I spotted him too! I'm in the UK, so was watching the 2am simulcast. I couldn't be sure it wasn't sleep deprivation. ☕️

So Mr. C is an FBI agent?

Did he get the 'co-ordinates' to get to the Black Lodge or is the Black Lodge portal on the way to the jail?

The playing card he shows Daria is the  tree from the Black Lodge waiting room or the insignia from the jade ring? Both?

ugh so many questions.

No, apparently after leaving the Lodge at the end of the second season he lived in Twin Peaks under Bob possession for a while, as it's stated in Secret History of Twin Peaks that he went visit Major Briggs after recovering from his injury and as we heard Lucy and Andy tell he left Twin Peaks after their child was born. Then he disappeared and the book confirms that in a few passages, so he's no longer working for the FBI. Some details on a few of these points, plus a few related things that struck me about part 1&2:

1) During his conversation with Phillip Jeffries he says he's seen Major Briggs. It's left unclear whether it's a recent thing or if he's talking about that visit mentioned in the book.

2) If it's a recent thing he might not be talking about Major Garland Briggs, since Don Davis, who portrayed him in the original series, is dead. That might mean he's talking about Bobby Briggs, for whom Garland foresaw a bright future in one of his visions/dreams. But I'm not sure if Coop mentions any first name/title, I should re-watch the scene.

3) Or maybe Briggs, after his death, might have become a full time member of the white lodge, to which he always seemed to have some kind of connection. Yet it would be strange for him to talk with the evil Coop, especially considering that in the book he seemed to be wary of Coop after the meeting described there, as he looked to him like he had changed (as in fact he did).

4) If he's talking about the meeting described towards the end of the book it means he's either never talked with Phillip Jeffries (unlikely, as they seem to be familiar with each other during the conversation) or he never mentioned that meeting to him, which is weird as it happened more than 25 years before.

5) When season 2 ended Lucy had just recently found out about her pregnancy, so while Coop must've not left the town immediately after recovering from the injuries, at the same time he didn't stay for more than 6 months or so.

6) The conversation with Jeffries is really very interesting. Both seem to be very aware of the rules of the Lodge, which leads me to believe that Jeffries must've suffered the same fate as Coop. The good Phillip was trapped in the Lodge, while the evil one is wandering for the world, and only occasionally the former is able to get free, when the spirits of the Lodge allow him, making him appear in random places (such as FBI headquarters in Philly in 1989, after 2 years missing, or in the same hotel in Argentina where he disappeared in the beginning), of course calling the latter back to the Lodge. Now, when Phillip appeared in Philadelphia he seemed in shock seeing Coop and warned Gordon Cole about him, presumably because he had seen the evil Doppelganger in the Lodge. Now we see him having a normal conversation with Coop, no more hostility. That might be the evil Jeffries, again around the world and in contact with evil Coop to pursue who knows what kind of purpose.

7) About Coop's doppelganger, I've to say I believe there's quite a mess between this idea and possession. Maybe that's because the former was an idea Lynch developed later (or had developed for some time but didn't make it into the show as he stayed out of it for a while), and by the way it's definitely become a recurring theme in his works ever since, anyway, it resulted in a lot of confusion. We saw in season 2 finale that everyone connected with the Lodge seem to have a Doppelganger (even powerful beings as the LMFAP, the Giant etc). But they don't necessarily coincide with that person being possessed by Bob (or another spirit). Leland wasn't evil, he was his normal self, the good Leland, with Bob taking over occasionally when he needed to and Leland was unaware and unable to remember afterwards. Now Coop was definitely possessed by Bob after he left the Lodge, we even saw him in the mirror. But now he looks just a regular bad guy. He might be one of the villains of Blue Velvet/Wild at Heart, maybe mixed with a little bit of Jean Renault and Windom Earle. His pursuing his own agenda, an evil one, but doesn't look like Bob at all. In my opinion Bob just left him, to inhabit other hosts (the last maybe being William Hastings), but since he possessed the Evil Cooper to begin with, he's still doing bad things.

8) Speaking about Windom Earle, Coop's briefcase and him using a laptop/table clearly remember of what Windom was doing in his hiding. And just as Windom he's looking for the coordinates and the locations of the gates to the Lodge. Although in the beginning he only needs them to get back to the Lodge, as he's ordered to, to allow good Coop to go back outside, he changes his mind and now seems to be have some other plan, maybe to use the power and the forces connected to the Lodge to his advantage, pretty much as Windom was trying to do. Which might be another clue that although Evil, long haired Coop is free from Bob. By the way, to answer one of the question, even if Coop has left the FBI he might still be able to access their databases. WE did the same in the original show, so it's nothing really surprising.

I'll just leave it here for now, I've already written to much for my first message and it took me awhile as I changed my mind some 10thousand times while writing and new things always came to my mind. There were many many interesting things in the first two episodes, which raises many questions (giving also some possible - yet not complete -  answers, i.e. what happened to Phillip Jeffries), I'll try to list some of them later.

I think Coop left town before Wally was born. "He never even saw Wally". So I don't think he was around for 6 months. I imagine he recovered enough strength to see Briggs, sabotaged the dossier and killed Briggs
