Seems strange that of all places, Coop goes finds who he thinks is Laura Palmer in Odessa, Texas.  Why?

Well, in 1961, Betty Williams's (a teenage girl) dead body was found in a stock pond several miles outside Odessa.  Her parents had reported her missing after she missed breakfast and failed to show up for classes at school.  A few of her classmates indicated that she had slipped out of her home in the middle of the night to spend time with a male friend. After she was dead, the guy who killed her wrapped her body up.

Evidently, many claim that the ghost of Betty Williams still haunts Odessa High School.  Maybe that is why we've seen several times of the girl running outside Laura's school.

Wow, interesting info. Where did you get it?

Lynch lived all over the place (including Spokane). Did he ever live near Odessa?

Taken from elsewhere:

Odessa is also home to the world's largest jackrabbit.

I was researching Odessa Texas and stumbled across this murder.  Evidently there was one of those TV investigative shows about this murder.

Interesting.

Back in the day (1990-ish) there was a lot of conjecture as to why Lynch chose Snoqualmie/North Bend/Preston/Fall City to film.  Many said it was due to strange goings-on in the history of the area and especially in the woods.

I of course have NO idea if this is remotely true.  But finding out about Odessa (which he didn't rename to a fictional place) makes me rethink some of those earlier theories.

Well yes, there is always the infamous treeoctopus.  Don't they have those everywhere?

Makes for good sasquatch snacks.  High in protein.  Low in carbs.

And the Jackalope connects up South Dakota and Odessa...

Hey, it makes as much sense as anything else!

There's also a Hooters style theme restaurant (staffed by large bosomed young women) in Odessa called Twin Peaks.  I am grateful that Lynch had Cooper make his intuitive connection with Laura/Carrie through stopping at Judy's and  didn't give this other Twin Peaks any further exposure.

I think this bit fits so well:
Musicians have used the jackalope in various ways. R. Carlos Nakai, a Native American flute player, formerly belonged to a group called Jackalope. In the late 1980s, it performed what Nakai called "synthacousticpunkarachiNavajazz", which combined "improvisation, visual art, storytelling, dance and dramatic theatrical effects."[36] Nakai said he wanted people to dream as they listened to the music

Hooters?  It's them bloody owls again.

Weird coinkydink...

Went to get new school stuff for the children today and after being pestered by said kids, we took 'em to a toy store.  Young Master Therapy chose a cuddly toy as his treat...

An owl.  I kid you not.

Perhaps also because Cooper is an Odysseus.
