Cooper remembered the Firemans warning, that's why he created Richard with the seed

Cooper is aware of the impossibility of saving Laura. Maybe it's possible to save Laura in the world of Twin Peaks, but as we saw with the infinity symbol that Philip shows Cooper, reality will just splinter and there will be another reality where the dark forces win by killing Laura. The giant warned Cooper in the first episode, remember Richard and Linda, two birds with one stone. Could Richard be the Tulpa he created with the seed? Cooper knew if you tried to save Laura that it would shatter reality, so is it possible that our real cooper was the one who walked through the red door in Lancelot Court, and by creating Richard, he killed two birds with one stone. It's basically exactly what bad coop did, create a tulpa to take his place and the time comes to be sucked back into the real world of the Black Lodge. It's possible that our beloved Cooper is finally able to take a retirement, enjoy a happy loving life with the family, and his tulpa is the one burdened to fight the Black Lodge for eternity. Richard reminds me a lot of a tulpa. Dougie was made from bad Cooper, and he had a lot of bad qualities, but he wasn't an evil person. If Richard was made from good Cooper, he would have a lot of good qualities, but he wouldn't be entirely good…

Oooh nice theory which would explain why Linada/Di didn't recognize Coop.

I love this. I don't necessarily believe it is the truth, but I also believe there is no definitive truth. That's the point of Twin Peaks and of Lynch. Again, I love this.

One thing I can't get my head around is how would Diane/Linda know that Cooper was now Richard as she wrote on the note?

Sounds possible scenario. In my opinion it is clear that the "Coop" in the last scenes is not real Cooper or Mr. C but somewhere in the middle.

She knew he was not Coop the same way she knew Bad Coop was not Coop when she kissed him?

Like this theory alot. Who could blame Coop for wanting to return to Naomi Watts (Jayne-E) anyway!

Hi Dayve,

She realized it while they were making love.  That's why she covered his face right in the middle of it.  =:-O

I think we can take away from this with what makes us happy and I love this theory!  To think of Coop getting his happiness with a family and love which he has always wanted would be the perfect ending.  Maybe too perfect LOL but hey it's my theory to have and appreciate!

I'm glad everyone likes my theory!  I think in reality David Lynch probably didn't know  what the ending meant either, he just received the puzzle pieces bit by bit and laid it out there for us. But this sending makes me the happiest, and it does seem odd that in the final episode, for his bizarre and brutal as it is, that he would take the time to show us the Jones's  happy ending.

Rewatching Episode 18 now.

I've noticed the Richard Coop wears a badge when he's in the lodge and throughout the rest of the episode. The (Real)Coop who is with Laura in the woods at the start of the episode does not.

Coincidently the Coop who walks through the red door to Janey-E and Sonny Jim doesn't wear the badge either. Neither does the Coop in Episode 7 (at the sheriff's station etc) but there is clearly a button hole on his suit jacket for a pin badge.

This leads me to realise that the tulpa/Richard coop created by Mike at the start of episode 18 is the one who goes with Diane and we see in the rest of episode 18

I honestly think you've nailed it here Kasidy! The real cooper is the one that went to Las Vegas
