Catherine Coulson died two years ago, on september 28th 2015, two days after the filming of her performance.

This is a part from an article published recently in The Blue Rose Magazine, issue #3.

Written by Scott Ryan

"David Lynch directed her over Skype so she wouldn't have to travel from Oregon to film.
In the end this what Catherine Coulson's job.
A job she loved ;  nevertheless a job.
This means she chose to spend her last hours at work.
For the most part, life moves quickly, and we go from moment to moment without considering them as they pass. But now imagine you only have 48 hours left to live. Would you spend any amount of that time at your job ?

Catherine Coulson didn't know she only had two days, but certainly she knew that her time was limited, and therefore time became her most precious commodity. She wanted to act, to perform her craft with that last handful of precious material.
Think about that. I know I have. Am I using my time wisely ? Am I doing what I should be doing ?"

I got very choked up watching her performances in the Return knowing she had completed the filming just a few days before her passing. I hope she was content knowing that so many people around the world adored her for not only her performance as the Log Lady, but also her role in bringing Lynch's vision to the world starting with her work on Eraserhead.

I admire her desire to continue her legacy as Margaret Lanterman, even though she must have been in discomfort.  It must have brought her some comfort to be able to say good-bye to her fans through this beloved character.  I'm reminded of David Bowie's final video "Lazarus", where he was saying goodbye to life.  Such courage to use your death as a way to portray artistry.  Rest In Peace Catherine Coulson.
