...and just to clarify...

...I don't dislike the Diane/Naido theory...I'm just saying with what little we know about the rules of the "manufactured"...I'm just not sure how that is plausible.

Her style of robe ( Brits call it a dressing gown ) does not mean her entire aesthetic is Asian.

How can you tell Naido is an Asian woman?  Because her name is Naido?

Diane  =   O d i a n (e)

She has no eyes or power of speech.  This would be a great way to hide the real Diane.  By the way none of this was my idea.  You can read the original ideas in the other thread below.

I think I might be missing something a bit culturally - there's been a lot of talk about similar & different ethnicities - and whether they can be 'exchanged'.  Now, I'm in no way claiming that this is an easier thing in one society than another, but I've been quite surprised by the distinction made between various actors' characteristics...
I don't have any wise words on the matter, but would like to offer up that my understanding of how some folk would like themselves referred to is completely different to folk in another country - so what may seem at odds might not be so.

I am actually ecstatic about the Diane/Naido connection.  It makes their meeting in the mauve room so much better.  The way she reacts when she feels his face, the way she stops his from leaving the wrong way and sacrifices herself to make sure he gets out safely (more or less.)  I mean, THAT is the Diane we were waiting for.  I don't care if she's got white hair or no eyes.

Plus we have no idea what's under all that extra skin that's keeping her blind.  With the crazy face cracking, head popping nuttiness that we've seen so far do you really think they couldn't find a way to change one into the other?

I've read that theory but I'm not sure I get it.

Naido is an Asian woman so I'm not sure how Diane would correlate with her.  We know what Diane looks like and Tulpas are supposed to be copies of the original person so I'm just not sure how the two are related or why Diane was hanging out in an intergalactic electrical station early in the season.

I believe that TulpaDiane looks like real Diane (hence Albert/Gordon thinking she was real diane).   But I think MrC would go to great lengths to conceal real Diane.  Some sort of lodge magic that blinded/muted/changed her appearance ?

Yes - you've just described a perfectly sensible link!

I just re-watched this scene from episode three and her demeanor totally changes when Cooper speaks for the first time and asks "where are we?"  It's like she recognizes his voice.  She grabbed his hands and gets him seated and starts feeling his face, gets excited/agitated and then begins to try to talk.

And who would know Coopers voice better than DIANE!

*ugly crying*

I think it's pretty clear that Diane was taken to the Dutchman's, if she is anywhere it would be there.

The funny thing is that before we had the Return we had never met Diane.  When Laura Dern was finally introduced as Diane...we were so excited.

...in the end...we still haven't met Diane...lol.
