I already posted a version of this in a different Judy thread but my theory is evolving so I want to start a new topic

It's interesting how much everyone seems to be assuming JUDY is an ALIAS for someone who we already have a name for.

Why wouldn't we assume that she's a lodge spirit like MIKE or BOB?

That's my vote.

It would explain:

-how she could have been with any of the (suspected of being Judy or not) characters

-how Jefferies met her (either through an inhabited person or in a lodge)

-how either good or bad Coop had met her (but not known!). No one that knew Leland was aware that they had met BOB.

It was similar in the original TP with BOB's name being tossed around and the audience left to wonder who is BOB?

JUDY is a lodge spirit. I don't know if she's been inhabiting someone in Twin Peaks, or hangs around in a lodge, the red room (angel that visits Laura at the end of FWWM?) the mauve room (american girl?), above the convenience store (Mrs. Tremond etc.) the bosomy woman, or what???

I think there's a pretty good chance she's inhabiting Jefferies. His speech and behavior does mimic certain ways Leland and Philip Gerard would go in and out of their possessions and demonstrate total confusion.

I'm now feeling more confident that JUDY is an inhabiting spirit and I think she inhabited Jefferies. I think this accounts for his actions and mutterings in FWWM (similar to Philip Gerard going in between MIKE and his true self). I also think this explains the different voices Jefferies used when he (if that WAS him) called Cooper in Daria's room and his voice as the percolator.

Now, this brings up more questions, such as

If JUDY is a lodge spirit why doesn't BOB already know her?

But it does explain why BOB so wants to know her.

If JUDY is a lodge spirit which lodge is she of? Does she represent good or evil? Or something else?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

So you think when Jeffries said to Cooper "you've already met Judy," he was talking about a lodge spirit that he had met (offscreen maybe) or is it a character we already know who is in fact actually a lodge spirit like MIKE or BOB?

It's an interesting theory for sure. I like it.

I fall into the camp of thinking that Judy isn't a codename for an established character.

Of course, I'm often wrong. Looking forward to finding out soon though (or perhaps not!)

The latter, I think Philip Jefferies is inhabited by JUDY, JUDY being a lodge spirit like MIKE or BOB. He's talking about himself without giving it away.

Sorry, but are we sure that Judy isn't Bill Hasting's secretary? She seemed really important to everyone in the first few episodes and I don't remember if they ever said her actual name.  It's a lot of source material!

Because BH got all confused around his alibi and said, Oh, I remember, I took my secretary home. But he looked all disoriented.

Hi Marian,

Her name was Betty.  She blew her mind out in a car - with the help of slack-jawed Jack and Mr. C.  😉
