The question I have is- are tulpas and doppelgänger the same thing? I was under the impression that tulpas were "manufactured" by.. "magicians" while doppelgängers were native entities of The Black Lodge that rose to menace their "real world" counterparts.
If they are one and the same, then Mr C is a tulpa? So who created him? Bob? Would love to hear theories!
Off the top of my head I think they're different, but somehow related. Tulpas can't seem to continue to exist once they go to the black lodge. And they seem to be manufractured from the DNA of the original. By contrast, Doppels seem to be created by the presence if the original in the lodge.
She said that she sent the coordinates by the sheriff's station, not that she was at the sheriff's station.
She also said that coop raped her and then took her to the convenience store.
I think she said old gas station which is what it looks like.
Wow, did anyone anticipate that she was a doppelganger??
I think most folks anticipated she was working (likely under duress) with Mr C after she received that text from him, but I cannot think of anyone saying she was a doppel. What a twist indeed.
Is Diane also the "Linda" that The Giant/Fireman told Cooper about in Episode #1? Now that Richard also met a similar demise, I'm wondering about it.
I doubt Linda is Diane. We still haven't met Linda.
Where's Linda now?? Would she be another character we already met in the show who would reveal herself as Linda in the finale??
If that's so, could Naido be her?? (esp. as Doppel Diane seems to be related to her somehow).
I think Naido is the real Diane
My spouse was just explaining the Naido/Diane connection (I have a partial hearing loss issue, so missed the dialogue about the sheriff's office).
So... if Naido is somehow Diane, then surely she'd have to be Diane's spirit/essence, trapped in Naido's body, right? Because Cole and Albert knew Diane, and Laura Dern looked her like (otherwise, they would have said). So, the real Diane couldn't be an Asian-looking woman, right?
My head hurts. lol
I assume the real Coop would've recognized her as Diane once he has seen her.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Asian appearance and unique face of Naido is some kind of illusion. When Cooper recognizes Diane, we might see her revert to Diane's bodily form. I'm kind of hoping for that anyway.
I think we knew there was something odd about Diane, but weren't sure of the reasoning behind it.
Gordon had said he noticed something 'wrong' (or something like that) & they seemed to be 'keeping their enemies close' rather than truly trusting her.
I did think her styling was perfect for appearing in the Red room though - hair & shoes especially!

This is my take. Doppelgängers are shadow selves, while tulpas are manufactured by Lodge entities.

That's the kind of idea I had - but would the tulpas (e.g. I'm supposing Dougie was a tulpa) have the same prior knowledge/shared experience as a doppelganger seems to have?
So the original Dougie was a tulpa set up to provide a haven for Cooper - but Diane2 was supposed to pass as the real Diane - that's what's confusing me.
According to the subtitles Doppeldiane does say "I'm in the sheriff's station." She also says she gave these coordinates to Bad Coop. And then she seems to realize at last that she's not the real Diane. Up until that point I don't think she had any idea. Then the whole thing clicked for her at the end. Pulling the gun was like suicide by execution.
No wonder she's been drinking for 20 years. Poor thing.

If you make a cake, not all cakes are made for the same reason.
One really important thing: Diane received the text saying : - ) ALL. at 16:31 but when she was in the room with Gordon, Albert and Tammie the text read as : - ) ALL without the period and at 15:50.
Did we travel back in time?
Or…. and I don’t really believe this one… Did the Real Diane receive the text at 16:31 but the Tulpa Diane who was destroyed got it at 15:50?
