When I originally heard the lyrics to Eddie Vedder's song, I thought it was about Dale Cooper, but now I think maybe it is about Audrey.
Running Out of Sand
[Verse 1]
Can't climb to heaven on the cross
One liar's promise drained the blood from my heart
Came a message in the dark
Offered the hand of a disembodied man
While I still had the chance[Chorus]
Now it's gone, gone
And I am who I am
Who I was I will never be again
Running out of sand[Verse 2]
I stare at my reflection to the bone
Blurred eyes look back at me
Full of blame and sympathy
So, so close
Right roads not taken, the future's forsaken
Dropped like a fossil or stone[Chorus]
Now it's gone, gone
And I am who I am
Who I was I will never come again
Running out of sand[Verse 3]
A drunk octopus wants to fight
Fearful of dreams, there'll be no sleep tonight
Fine at dinner, dead by dessert
Victim or witness, we're gonna get hurt
A fragile existence with echoes of wrath
I can't stop the bleeding nor the tears from thine eye
There's another us around somewhere with much better lives
With God as our witness but he won’t testify[Chorus]
Oh now it's gone, gone
And I am who I am
Who I was I'll never have the chance
Running out of sand
Running out of sand
Running out of sand
Hi buttercup,
Reminds me more of Diane. 🙁

There is no way she was in a coma and just woke up. She was standing at a mirror. If she woke from a coma she'd be in bed. She'd be hooked up to tubes and monitors.
either she is in a lodge somewhere. Or she is in a nuthouse and those bright lights will fade and reveal Charlie her doctor shining bright lights to shock her out of her fantasy.
If Audrey's in a psych ward I don't think they'll give her access to a mirror because she might hurt herself. So yes, she's probably in a lodge.
I only hope that the entire world of TP isn't Audrey's dream.
So I assume that is the last scene for Audrey.. her story is over now as far as the series goes right ??
Hi, Michele,
I'd bet good money we will see Audrey again.
Like a butterfly, she is emerging from a cocoon of clouded consciousness, and surely we'll see her fly away soon! =:-O

Thank you. All of this coma talk, as plausible at it may have been prior to that scene, became immediately irrelevant when she awoke in a standing position. I can't imagine that even in a Lynch world someone can be in a standing coma.
Reading those lyrics -- especially the last two lines before the final chorus ("There's another us around somewhere with much better lives/With God as our witness but he won't testify") -- it could be about basically any character that is going through a doppelganger/duality situation. The first half of that lyric is somewhat obvious, in its relation to the themes of the show -- the "good us" is somewhere out there with a better life. This was certainly true for Coop, arguably so for Jeffries, and strongly suggested for Sarah Palmer. Could it also be about Audrey and/or Diane? Of course. Especially if Audrey is in a lodge and Diane is Naido.
Now, the final lyric -- while using the colloquial and limiting "God" -- might be a reference to the overall "goodness" of Dale and Laura. Keep in mind that we don't know for SURE that Audrey's snap to reality (or whatever it was) gives her an awareness of Dale Cooper's return. Therefore, she may FEEL that "God" (or "good") isn't testifying on her behalf... but as we all saw, it's about to.
The "goodness" not testifying could also be related to the fact that we have not seen Laura in quite some time. Maybe she is set to "testify" in the final two installments.
All in all, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ART THIS SEASON HAS BEEN. I'm so in love. Thanks, Lynch, Frost, and whomever else had a hand!

It's also interesting that the shot involved her looking in a mirror. Seems clear (to me) that Lynch and Frost are making some commentary here about women and age. Sherilyn Fenn/Audrey was one of the 3 main 'faces' from the original series, and in some sense she's been frozen in time as that young bombshell ingenue. But time has passed, and she can't be that anymore. And that really is okay. Audrey's awakening might be a reflection of her -- but really OUR -- acceptance of that.
I think whatever it was, Audrey was happy & relaxed in that moment - and all other scenarios are not good for her. Maybe a reminder for so many of us that what we would like to see is not the fairest or most beneficial for the other people in our lives?
And whatever it was, may I just say for a woman in her 50's, damn fine figure!
Appreciate someone's comment finally that "nuthouse" (diminutive term) residents aren't given mirrors. I think she's somewhere else (but where?). Her story is not finished. All night and now today I'm agitated by Lynch's deliberate mirror homage to this, contrasting tone and timbre, and what, if anything it symbolizes:
I still think she's in some kind of a dream or allucination. The husband is another of the short men/midgets who are dream-entities in Lynch's world.
I don't think she's in a coma or in a ward. Richard tells Mr C that his mom had a pic of him, which tells me she was an active mother, at least for a period of time. In my opinion, everything that Mr C touches becomes tainted.
She's not a tulpa, but when Mr C violated her in the hospital, he not only planted his seed but may have planted some sort of lodge spell, like Diane appeared to be under. She's tormented, sick, and possibly dreaming or undergoing therapy.
She obviously doesn't know what happened to her because why would she keep a picture of the man who raped her? For all she knows, she lost her virginity to that rich dude and Richard was his son.
Cooper is still her hero and I predict his appearance in TP will prove it. Who knows? Maybe they end up together!

I would love that but I think Lynch gave us Audrey and Cooper .. even though we got her and bad cooper I'm pretty sure their story is over
Could she be a hostage? I'm expecting Audrey & Coop's storylines to come together in the finale.
I agree. It's more of a wish than a prediction.
I read somewhere that Audrey was supposed to be romantically involved with him in the TV series, but because Lara Flynn Boyle was dating Kyle M, she had him change the script and Annie was introduced. Jealousy perhaps. I don't know if that's true. My wish is that Lynch wanted them to be together since the start and now he has full control to make that happen. Again, just a wish and not a prediction.
Not wish, but a prediction: Dale defeats Mr C/Bob with Laura's help but sacrifices himself in the process. New tulpa Dougie arrives back in LV at the house with the red door and lives happily ever after with his beautiful family.
I think what we learned about Diane should help us with what's going on with Audrey, because both had a love interest in Cooper and were visited by him. You could see in the scene with tulpa-Diane that the real tulpa was shining through. The tulpa was fed by the electricity or radio waves of the mobile phone.
The idea of two parties communicating with Diane with only slightly different messages (Bad Coop and Jeffries?) could mean that both parties were trying to control her. Would explain why she appears torn apart (at first only metaphorical, but also literally later on).
Haven't read this entire thread so apologies if this has been mentioned...
The music and the musicians were in reverse after Audrey's reveal, so it's a good bet she's nowhere nice.
