Sorry in advance if this has been discussed to death already or if I'm not offering anything new.

I saw on Reddit someone found the cafe Monica Bellucci and Detective Cole meet in his dream - it's the Crêperie Plougastel in France.

When Monica asks Cole who the dreamer is, she looks past him and he follows her gaze but sees nothing. @48.842321,2.3257543,3a,45y,96.44h,82.05t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1suyH8qbVuQx5oLe4V-gYMjw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656" target="true">This is what he would've seen. The gallery where David Lynch's Plume of Desire currently resides.

With that in mind, could David Lynch be the dreamer?

“We are like the dreamer who dreams and lives inside the dream... But who is the dreamer?”

The director who creates his own universe and casts himself in it?

This could tie into and confirm the whole "3/15" aspect where Coop's body goes to E3 and his mind goes to E15 - showing a certain self awareness of the universe knowing it's a television show.

It's plausible but would probably lead to a Blazing Saddles type ending. I'd be surprised if the dreamer, granting there is one, isn't Laura (or Cooper).

Using Tammy's mentioning of "tulpa" I'm starting to be more and more convinced that the "dreamer" is many individuals.  Since a tulpa is defined as a thoughtform created from the collective thoughts of separate individuals, maybe the surrealistic parts of this show are the "thoughtforms" of many.  Maybe the Audrey/Charlie scenes are Audrey's thoughtforms, maybe many of the Roadhouse scenes are James's thoughtforms,... etc., etc.

But I do like that the ultimate dreamer is Lynch... creating his universe as mentioned by Sean above.

Yes! That was my take on it. I mean, it could mean a lot of things, but I figured one intended purpose was self reflection by the auteur.

re Knowing it's a TV show. In novels, short stories etc, it's known as authorial intrusion. I've been accused of it in creative writing groups, probably most writers have, certainly at the start of their career, not that it's my career. Like any rule, I guess one can get away with breaking a rule, if done well, similar to not adhering to the rule of thirds in a frame or photo.

I'm delighted my thoughts on Coop having some sort of awakening in part 15 having gone to sleep in part 3 were on target. I did think authorial intrusion in amongst my reasoning to that end.

I don't however have any clue where he'll be come part 16, back in the waiting room with Mike or 'our' Coop waking up in Dougie Jones' house with a headache and who the heck is Janey-E?

OOOoooo.  I love that we know the cafe is near to Lynch's exhibition in France.  That's interesting information.  Not sure it has anything to do with the dreamer reference though.  It may have just been a convenient place to film while he had Monica Bellucci with him in Paris. "Hey Monica, let's film a sequence and then we can go see my exhibit."

Maybe the question wasn't "who is the dreamer", but "who is the D:reamer"?

It's a well known fact that Professor Brian Cox was the keyboardist of D:Ream.

Perhaps he opened a portal to the lodge at CERN.

Entirely possible. Absolutely possible.

That is how I see it, too.

This is the very archetype of a rhetorical question.

Which is not to say that it doesn't have an answer (though it may not, or may have more than one answer) or that it isn't worth debating.

I'm assuming the dreamer here is Dougie/Cooper.? Since he is like in a dream like state at the moment .. hence shoving the end of a fork to jolt him back to reality

Mmh, as far as Part 15 is concerned, James's Roadhouse dreams have become nightmares.
