Below the orb, the wisp of smoke to me looks like a ghastly female figure floating in space, just like we saw vomiting BOB.

I can see the similarity. The feature most similar to the vomiting scene is the orb. It's probably obvious that Jeffries IS the orb. If the smokey form is suggestive of the mother creature, what would Lynch be trying to tell the viewer?
