There is a lot of ground to cover and 3 hours to do it. What do you think will be the ultimate conclusion? I am completely baffled by what will happen or might happen in the end...

I think we're gonna be left with sooo many loose ends it will automatically call for a fourth season.

And yet I'm hearing it's not the commercial success it was hoped to be, so once again, will we be left hanging?  Or are they going to answer all the loose threads in a book?  How unsatisfactory.  I don't mean to be negative, I'm just worried, because overall, I've loved this season.

"Poor ratings," yes.  But Twin Peaks' small but rabid fan base will be buying lots of Blu-ray sets and digital downloads when this wraps up..  And as a property for CBS, the more content the more profitable long term in terms of downloads and double and triple-dip physical media purchases.  Not to mention the ongoing buzz and prestige of a groundbreaking series starring the likes of Kyle McLaughlin, Laura Dern, Naomi Watts, etc.

Another "season" is probably just a beautiful dream but I'll bet it will be more determined by David Lynch's desire to continue than simple ratings.  After all, David Lynch is in his seventies- the window for CBS to grow its Twin Peaks property is finite.

Since there is absolutely no certainty that S04 will ever happen, it think it would be a massive let down. (Especially since a lot more key characters like Albert have recently passed away.) When it was announced few years ago that S03 will finally, actually happen, I expected it to conclude the Twin Peaks saga in a fashion it deserves, given how it was abruptly canned by ABC and ended in a cliffhanger. Another cliffhanger with multiple loose ends would be most unsatisfying.

E: I could so see this being me after the Season 3 finale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLfdKtAMKEs#t=84 (~1m 24s)

I'm pretty positive the story is done after that.

Life always goes on after the end of the movie/show. Even most mysteries live on. I don't think most people are scared of dying without knowing who Jack the Ripper was, yet that's what's going to happen. It's okay. What matters is that *balance is restored*.

I think we'll have loose ends but not with another season in mind. I think it'll be more Inland Empire where we're all left wondering what the heck we just watched (in a good way).

Still, according to this article, Showtime says "the door is always open" for DL if he wants to make a fourth season.

We will be left with hanging threads. When has any show attempted to tie things up and not left the audience unsatisfied?

...maybe Mary Tyler Moore.

Season 4- Becky moves to Miineapolis to become a spunky newsroom producer.

The Young Ones managed it.  They all drove over a cliff in a big red bus.

Lynch isn't worried about ratings, I can pretty much guarantee that one thing.

If the series ends with a lot of loose dangling threads, he'll be very happy with that and maybe pick the stories  and themes up in new ways: paintings, comic books (!) why not, movies, novels, maybe some new fancy media we haven't even discovered yet.

Great discussion. I know I'll be saddened if this truly is the end. Regardless if we get closure on the story or not. This series is and always has been the most entertaining TV series of all time.

The episodes also work like this: One our? No. It's 50 minutes, from which 15 minutes at least go to intro and outro (live act in the Roadhouse), 5 minutes to the mostly irrelevant random-people-at-the-roadhouse conversations, 2 minutes to landscape sequences, and 8 minutes to plots that everybody is just annoyed by and by which Lynch just likes to tease us, such as the scenes with this extremely annoying heroin addict Steve where I almost fast-forward. So that leaves is with 20 minutes of episode with Mister C, Dougie, Diane, Cole, Audrey, and so on. You thought you got 3 hours of Twin Peaks left? It's more like 60 minutes tops! :-O

Maybe I should, but I won't mind if there are a lot of loose ends.

I'd like to see a Chief Deputy Hawk spinoff series. I know that will never happen, but I think it could be great.
