Mynok may be wondering if the Giant from the original run is the same as the Fireman in The Return.  If not, I'll wonder that.

He did? I must have missed that.

The being who, up until now in The Return, has een known as ???????, told Andy, "I am the Fireman."

Then there is the the being who appeared in seasons 1 and 2, and was identified as the Giant.

Now, they're both played by the same actor and, as another forum member said, we can assume they are the same being, but we don't actually know that for certain.

When in Part 14 did he tell Andy, "I am the same bloke who appeared to Dale Cooper back in the day." ??

I think we're at cross-purposes here. You answered a question that they weren't asking.

Yes that's what I meant 🙂

The likelihood is they are the same person. But they've changed his name which strike same as odd detail.

If there are more Giants to appear, it makes sense to give him a specific name.

Yes, that is a bit odd.

Same kind of thing I wondered about with Phoebe Augustine in Part 3. She's Ronette Pulaski for five episodes in the original run, but "American Girl" for one part of The Return. So... looks the same? Could be the same character? Perhaps not, though, since they have different names?

Who knows.

'It's in our house now' could refer to the House of the Giants.

The Fireman didn't say it's in my house now.

The 'our' referring to the plural form of giants.

Maybe the Giant was talking about himself in the OS when he said in the last episode, "one and the same." 😉

In the Secret History, a race of giants is referred to several times. I know, I know - just pointing it out before the "it's not canon" crew lambast me 😀

It's more canon than their opinions. 😉

Both Cooper and Andy receive information through two very different approaches.

Cooper gets riddles - perhaps that is the best way to trigger Cooper's intellectual and intuitive strengths.

Andy gets a "movie" which likely better matches his emotional orientation and possibly learning style.

The Fireman needs to share information but in a way that motivates Cooper and Andy to act.  Cooper would not do what the Giant simply told him in season 1; he had to experience it at a more intuitive level.  Andy likely needed to sense the emotional nature of the message (the girl crying when Laura died, the trepidation on Lucy's face, the desperation of Naido).  Andy's empathy is the path for him to do what the Fireman needs.

That does make sense.  I was surprised by Freddies story. It sounded like a very straight narrative, full of very specific instructions. The fireman used normal language and answered Freddies question. Of course we don't see it, but Freddie describes it that way.

This is so unlike the Fireman we have seen. He hardly says a word to Cooper. He explains nothing and their interactions are marked by long stretches of silence. Maybe he spells it out to Freddie because he has only a functional role to play and nothing else needs to be said or understood.

And also the way Freddie describes it reminds me of sections from the Bible/Torah. In Genesis God would sometimes give very specific mundane instructions to Moses or one of the Prophets. I should say mundane but strange and always very important.

I find Freddy suspicious...new thread here.

It's hard to square the Fireman we know and love with the Fireman that gave Freddy long-winded (relatively speaking), precise instructions.

So, maybe there are other firemen keeping an eye on things.

But Andy got more details about Naido than he could have from merely looking at those images, so maybe the Fireman communicates telepathically, or the images he shows somehow convey explicit verbal information to whoever is watching them. Maybe if we could have viewed Freddy's encounter with the Fireman we would have seen the two of them sitting still and not (or barely) speaking.

"I find Freddy suspicious."

One indication that Freddy may be Black Lodge material is how he crushed those walnuts. Very similar to how the Woodsmen crush heads.

The Giant did not appear in season 1. He first appeared in the season 2 opening episode.
