According to Nae Yuuki's Twitter, the script said that she sewed her own eyes closed.

[translated] It is my mysterious character, but in the script, it was explained as eyes sewn shut (it says that I sewed my eyes closed). So, there is an eye but you are deprived of "seeing"

I may be missing something, but I think Andrew was referring to time zones, though of course 2:53 is actually earlier in South Dakota than in Washington state. The next question is, where does 4:30 become significant (from one of the first lines in the first episode—or is that one not a time)?  As for Naido's eyes, good question. They look sewn shut to me.

430 is my fav mystery of all and I hope this bears out: the ringing in the Great Northern heard by Ben Horne is an overtone series rooted on an A, which is around 430 hz.

(Also, when Doc Jacoby strikes the golden shovel, we hear an A and E, which is, again, an overtone series rooted on A. But, it may be that Lynch was using keyboard synths to create these sounds, and A is just his go-to note.)

I'm sorry to dash (again) your lovely four three zero = hum at 430Hz theory but the hum at the Northern is way, way above 430Hz. And actually the most audible note is a Bb (not far off an A but an octave above your preferred frequency). You're right about the harmonic overtones, though - you can hear the Eb below it. Much like those Tibetan singing bowls you like that are coming back in style...

Did anybody commented on her eyes yet? Are they sewed? Are they sewed for a purpose? Sometimes the obvious is the key

Hi ezekiel,

They are either sewn shut or skin has grown over them.  Why?  And what's with the five stab wounds on them?

So many questions, so little time.  😉

- /< /\ /> -

In a different forum someone mentioned that they looked like a caul, a membrane over the face, rather than being sewn shut.

that was me and its actually THIS forum, 5 pages back. lol

Darn. I'll try to keep up!

Hey Ric, my first intuition on Naido was that she did the sewing herself or demanded it for protection (looks like it could be possible, considering the twit of the actress) Eyes are the most perceptive instrument,  it's like a portal, and especially in our society where sight is so dominant.

I think my intuition came from the dopplegangers iconography in Twin Peaks but also considering "Possession" by Andrzej Zulawski (a great inspiration for Lynch). In both cases dopplegangers are easily identified by their eyes. Naido could be the only human without a doppleganger?

That's an interesting thought, that Naido would do it to herself, so as not to literally see too much. There is a case to be made for the downside of too much insight, too much awareness of light/dark forces, too much knowledge...

She will identify the real Cooper.  Both have the same injuries now and she will know the difference.

I think the fact that she can't SEE and that she can't SPEAK have to be connected. She seems to be trying to speak, which leads me back to thnking that this is not something she did to herself.  Howcshe came to be as she is, though, feels like one of those things we won't get an answer to. Why is she HERE, that is something I thnk we will know. You gotta think it will have something to do with Dale and his fate...

When the real Dougie turned into a pearl, Mike covered his eyes his during some of this process. I always wondered if there was a particular reason for doing so, and now I'm pondering if it may be connected somehow to Naido permanently shutting hers.

One of these days a friend of mine, while we were discussing about the last episode, pointed out this thing I've never noticed, I would propose it to you: in the images Andy sees looking up through the window in the white lodge, we can see a precise moment of the morning after the night Laura died, that is when the "running girl" pass through the courtyard hiding her face and screaming. So my friend's idea was about a connection between the "the running/screaming/hiding her face girl" of the pilot and Naido.

I don't know if there's already an explaination to that first season scene, but if anyone knows please share it.?

I add something that probably someone has already spotted here before that I found in this page (  https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/6l3fwe/s3e8_theres_a_time_if_jupiter_and_saturn_meet/):  the white lodge flooring it's pretty similar to what we can see observing the Jupiter surface. The white lodge is the Giant/Fireman mansion and Jupiter is also known as the solar system giant. So could we assume that the Fireman is an alien from Jupiter? It may be. After all when we see Dale and Naido near the bell they effectively are in the deepness of space, between the stars.

I noted also a curious thing that maybe could be a clue that was gave to us: in the 3rd episode we see Cooper in the soft lighted room with Naido and his attention is brought to that strange switchboard with the number 3 on it. Naido discourages him to approach it, lead  him to the bell up the stairs and after she pulls the lever she gets catapulted away (probably in our world in TP). After Dale returns downstairs the number on the switchboard is changed from 3 to 15. I suggest that maybe that 15 refers to the next episode where Good Coop will ultimately wake up and the Naido's arrival on earth could be the needing help. Also in episode 6, after Richard Horne run over the little boy, we see the camera framing the FWWM pole with the number 6. Coincidences?

Have a nice awakening you all! Here is already lunch time!

Yes, I like your connection with the running girl covering her eyes.  Just what i was talking about and it gives a deeper meaning to that scene.

Sorry guys, I made a mistake: before Dale and Naido went out the room the number was 15, then it turned into 3 once she pulled the lever on the bell. My point of view doesn't change and my question to you may be this: could it be that Lynch uses the progression number of the episodes, relating it to numbers or meanings included into the episodes? First time i had this idea after seeing episode 8. I was thinking about the fact that  watching this one seemed to me more like to observe a painting, in the sense of looking to something enclosed in a frame. Episode 8 is clearly meaningful for all the show but in a particular way is also detached. I've personally, and underline personally, red it like it's telling us the story of a birth but also the story, or rather the image, of something that is never born, fixed, eternal in his perfection, including both humans and spiritual livings in their  each other's connections. So I started  thinking: maybe the number 8 has something to do in here.  The number 8 in the Kabbalah tradition represents the entry into the dimension beyond the time (the 8 seen horizontally becomes the  Greek Lemniscate that symbolizes the infinite) and also corresponds to the letter "cheit" that is also known as the "double door"(a door which the unborn comes into light but also a gateway to the spiritual revival of the man). Another curious thing that you can spot in the 8th episode is that were 64 (8x8) the strokes before the Fireman mutes the Bell pulling the lever.

Just a speculation, but i wanted to share it with you...

This has been covered a lot previously, in the forum and elsewhere online.

Yes, it's possible. We'll find out for certain next week.

IMO I don't see Coop returning next week. That would feel rushed, as we didn't have a Coop/Dougie episode in EP14. Unless the entire episode is based on his returning.

Instead, like others have said, perhaps the whole Return of Coop is in the series as a whole, hence the name.

Only four episodes left though, so only matter of time til we find out 😉

Thanks for the reply Myn0k and sorry for the repetition!

Probably you're right, but I'm still hoping in a premature Return of Dale. Only 4 hours left... Enjoy it;)

a quick note about the tweet above. She's saying her eyes were sewn shut, but doesn't specifically say she did it to herself. The Japanese language can be quite unclear and needs to be translated in context, but in this case she clearly didn't imply anything. Plus the fact that she's interpreting the script... I guess it's not important, but I felt like it needed to be said.
