The tagline for Twin Peaks: The Return has been IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN, but I don't necessarily feel like they've made clear yet what "it" is in that sentence. What would you guys say is happening again?

Interesting question

  • Cycling of Bob vs. Laura
  • Opening of the larger gap between dimensions
  • Growth of crazy, pain, and suffering in Twin Peaks

Just some quick ideas I could through out.

The quirkiness, the confusion, the delight, the lively conversation around (this time virtual) dinner tables about the show, cycles of human behaviour (violence, drugs, relationships), dreams, the crumbling of barriers between dreams/other dimensions of experience and "ordinary" reality, melodrama and boredom, coffee and cherry pie,  changing the way television (while it still lasts) is made and viewed, identities that are confused and people who are not what they seem, the breaching of the fragile balance between madness and sanity, the persistence of kindness amid darkness...

And James singing. Of course.

More strictly, commonly denied small town sexual abuse that ends in murder. Keep in mind that TPFWWM is the story of Leland's abuse & its consequences told via Laura's abuse & its consequences within a framing narrative (reference to Ed's "frame straightening" intended) of mysterious dark forces and law enforcement failure.

Indeed, though so far in the Return the sexual violence seems to be implied, rather than directly referenced, by other forms of gender-based violence and sexual violence has not (so far) ended in murder, though there's plenty of that as a result of other types of violence and darkness.

I was intrigued, too, by the "frame straightening" sign at Big Ed's though I'm not sure that there's much straightening of the narrative frame going on here (yet).

Maybe the IT refers to the reinvention of modern television storytelling.  IT happened back in 1989/90 and IT is happening again in 2017!

Love the Jimmy Stewart-Vertigo avatar by the way!  A great film that heavily influenced the Lynch side of Lynch/Frost in Twin Peaks.

BLUE ROSE is IT you MORONS

Can't you see that Blue Rose is real, that it actually exists? Of course you can't see, you're far too busy lying on your couches, waiting for David Lynch and Mark Frost to give you a nice and easy solution for something that can never be explained, and meanwhile BOB is coming, he's coming for me, I hear his voice, I've heard it for so long that I can hear nothing else anymore, and you just sit there and can't even do the most basic research? Has Blue Rose been on TV before? HAS BLUE ROSE BEEN ON TV BEFORE?

Ummmm....can someone page Dr. Jacoby please? 🙂

I'm unsure if this is funny or sad.
