Would you have been more accepting of the Dougie storyline had Showtime/David Lynch promoted the season as Dale Cooper's journey to regain his identity?

No.

(I didn't need The Return to be promoted as anything, though)

I can forgive everything I don't like just because episode 8 exists.

I like the Dougie story line.  It's a classic "what will happen next" plot.  And it's often funny, which a lot of the other plot lines aren't.  I like them all, in truth.

I look forward to each episode with a "What have they come up with this time?" in my head.

I also like the Dougie storyline.  It was completely unexpected.  It has been unpredictably funny, aggravating, stupid, puzzling, etc.  Just wait until we are all crying along when the inevitable heartbreak hits this storyline.

There is not much I don't like. There are a few things that were other than my expectations, but that is easy to get over. I am soaking in every second of this miracle.

Which is where I think the part title - "There's some fear in letting go" comes from, and especially because I'm convinced that is when Dougie Coop will have the mother of epiphanies realising he's Special Agent Dale Cooper based on the dial in the pink / lilac room starting with 3 and changing to 15. These, until I'm proven wrong (highly likely) refers the parts, in 3 you'll change, in 15, you'll change back.

I hope you're right. I think I've also commented elsewhere that Part 15 would structurally make sense for another dose of weirdness (à la Part 3, if not Part 8 - much as I would love some more hardcore surrealism, I fear that Part 8 will be allowed to stand alone in its glory) and that it could herald the re-emergence of SA Dale Cooper.

But probably not. The return of SA Dale Cooper may be much less literal than we imagine (i.e. his return to the "real" world and more specifically to Twin Peaks).

Maybe I really do fear letting go of dear old Dougie Coop and all that may ensue.

(I still don't think that promoting the Return as Coop's journey to recovery his identity  would have made one whit of difference to my appreciation or otherwise of the extended Coop-as-Dougie story.)

Wonderful theory, Colin and compelling!

Hmmm... Why would the portal be structured in terms of episodes from a TV show?

Maybe it is a meta reference but that seems a bit unsubtle for Lynch and co.

I agree re: meta, but Part of why I buy the meta in Colin's post is due to Pieter's (lucky?) prediction:

http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/discuss/twin-peaks-part-13/heres-why-big-ed-could-appear-in-part-13/

It caused me to wonder how many other folks have conjured theories based upon part #'s that ultimately became true.

I can get with that one but an episodic reference within the show itself?  I don't buy it.

Hi Travis,

I would have watched it even if they had promoted it as a mash-up of Empire and Sleep.

That's how grateful I was for more Twin Peaks.  😉

I actually like the Dougie story the best. It's the only emotional investment I have in this season and it's letting Kyle shine like never before. I also love Watts in this plot.

I like the Dougie storyline, also.

My only complaint is that the show needs more Wally Brando. 😉
